Came back to it this morning and it won't post. Just shows a couple lines on the error LEDs just like the last board. I think I'm giving up on this board and going with an Asus. For me these X38-T2Rs have voltage issues that keep killing the boards.
i believe it is a bios issue with this board...i had the same problem(s) like you described...best to try an actual cmos reset with battery out to get it to boot.

despite my love of dfi I am buying a board that will support my processor. I plan to hold on to this board (I already insulated it for phase ). if dfi does not come through with a stable bios by ther end of january I will not buy any more dfi products.

clearly they know about the problems, they have not addressed them and continue to advertise that it is compatible, which it is not.

all the performance in the world is worthless if it will not boot....
i hear your frustration!!!!...the bios is pathetic when it comes to a 9650 or even a 9770!!...i had many problems but it was all with Vista...XP worked fine for me up to 4400 mhz...it appears that the 12/28 and 1st release has severe deficiencies with the 9650 and vista...ever since i put my Q6600 back in, it has worked NICELY with XP and Vista.

3,000 post's and haven't figured out multi-quote, rofl, just busting your nads

Ace, your setting for 3.96, you are unable to prime95 stable it, do you believe this a CPU wall for you, or the board? As my goal is ~4GHZ stable, crunching stable.

sorry for the outdated sig...i sent back my 9650 for an exchange...it had a defective DTS on one and possibly two cores...Intel would not give me an RMA for that reason...i read intel's warranty and it does not state any exceptions....i was lucky to do the exchange since i was 29 out of 30 days into my drop-dead return policy with clubit.com

installed both XP SP2 and Vista 64 (dual boot) on the Intel Raid controller (128K).

ace-a-rue, what are your pwm temps when loading your 4 cores @ ~1.5V on your cpu?

Sorry bout your doggy, ileostomy? Nice thing about dog's and kids, they heal quick and adjust to things like that just as fast.

not sure which is PWM..is that the "SYSTEM" temp?

not that but something similar...they did a cystotomy and scrotal urethrostomy....huge stones removal in the urethra (behind the penis) and they made a new pee site....he has a genetic disease called cushing's disease which is the cause for the stones...this is his 2nd surgery to remove stones...this time it was far worse....he is 12 years old...i couldn't put him down...he is like our child...spent $4k for the surgery and doctor bills.

pwm temps should be found in the temp sensor section of the bios, I assumed with everest or some other windows based sensor you should be able to pull these temps as well.

I have yet install the board yet, awaiting my graphics cards, 2 days to go. Busy working on a few modifications to the board. I have a horizontal mounting mobo tray in my MM horizon, so the pwm heatsink was easy, drilled and tapped the screw holes, so they are now attached providing stability. Will be adding an enzo tech all copper NB block with an 80mm fan, also will have an 80mm on the pwm heatsink. I found digital pwm's the hardest part of heat to dissapate when I had an IN9 32X max board, so assume the problem exists on this board as well at higher voltages.

I understand about your puppy, my chow chow has just hit 6, and I dread the day even now when she ages to the point of needing to be put down.

i did a wPrime 1024M bench and the "SYSTEM" temp went up to 55C so i assume that is the PWM temp...i have a small 40mm fan on it and the case door is open for the time being....i presume with the case door closed that it would be in the low 60C range.

    CPU VID CONTROL = 1.5375
    VID SPECIAL ADD = AUTO
    DRAM VOLT CONTROL = 2.150 OR 2.10
    SB CORE/CPU PLL = 1.89
    NB CORE VOLTAGE - 1.703
    CPU VTT VOLTAGE = 1.514

    GTL REF VOLTAGE:
    CPU GTL 1/3 REF VOLT = 116
    CPU GTL 0/2 REF VOLT = 116
NORTHBRIDGE GTL REF VOLT = 120

these are not hard locked settings...i need to still explore downward except for the Vcore...the vcore is my lowest that can hold 3963 mhz and also perform wPrime 1024M bench.

i am not sure, should look like this, not my pic, taken from the everest forum on a lanparty P35, PWM is clearly noted.

Hmm, wonder if they changed it up for the X38, hopefully Praz will see this and can clarify what the "system" temp means.

System temp is PWM temperature. Don't know about the accuracy though. The Volterra controller is under strict NDA. I do know it has the capability of monitoring and reporting the temperature of each phase. Since we are seeing a single temperature I'm not sure if that is an average of all the phases or the reported temperature of a single phase.
