Like I said in the SkullTrail thread, this proves that there will be quite a few boards if Intel is letting boutique and OEM builders have them
"To exist in this vast universe for a speck of time is the great gift of life. Our tiny sliver of time is our gift of life. It is our only life. The universe will go on, indifferent to our brief existence, but while we are here we touch not just part of that vastness, but also the lives around us. Life is the gift each of us has been given. Each life is our own and no one else's. It is precious beyond all counting. It is the greatest value we have. Cherish it for what it truly is."
i thought skulltrail boards were black?
Either fake or a very early production board. Quite a few connectors and jumpers are either different or are not where they should be.
hmmmmmm

so this is an intel mainboard based on an nvidia chipset? LOL

I thought Crossfire worked on anything that could take the cards (PCI-E slots)
isnt 3-way CF all about the drivers? Speaking of which......where are they?
Intel chipset + NVidia "Southbridges".
In regard to the Crossfire bit...nVidia chipsets USED TO SUPPORT CROSSFIRE...DFI NF4 flickers somewhere in the back of my mind...then nVidia got agressive and bought ULi...slowing ATI's chipset business due to a Northbridge without a southbridge...and then bios locks came to NF4 Crossfire.
They've ALWAYS been physically capable (Crossfire can work across SPI link even, this is how Crossfire support was "added" to 965 long after 965 was released) But i think nVidia made one of the best business moves, EVAR!!!, in creating SLi as a platform, rather than just an additional function...do you think 570/590 or 680i would have sold as well without the present bios locks?
I mean really, as a consumer we could only HOPE that nVidia was playing with a more open platform...is nVidia gonna stop producing AMD chipsets too? And how would that work...AMD cpu's not allowed to work with AMD videocards, because of purposely written bioses? So you gotta swap bios for the Crossfire version?
I mean really...AMD's in enough trouble as it is.
That was the deal...Skulltrail gets SLI, NForce 780i gets Yorkfield support. i hope ATI brings out some serious mobos to compete with this bad boy. p.s. ITS NOT FAKE! lol

I think the 790fx boards will really harm nvidia's amd board market share, they're looking really nice as it is, and judging by 780i, 780a or whatever it is won't be anything special plus 790fx runs really cool due to the 65nm nb (with 10w tdp)
As for intel cpu mobos from ati, if they make some using a nb similar to that of 790fx's, then I think that we'll finally see nvidia be forced to innovate again, as x48 will probably hold the high end unless 790i is something that leapfrogs it (especially with p45 coming too) and ati will probably hold the mid/low end just due to having great features for ~$100
why would you need an nvidia southbridge to run sli?
its stupid... why doesnt nvidia just ask intel for 50$ per board that can run sli?
instead they sell intel an unnecessary chip...
maybe nvidia doesnt trust intel or cant figure out how to control that sli only works on certain boards/intel chipset and not all intel or all chipsets overall?
What about quality control? Having their chip on every SLI mobo, they know exactly what to expect of mobo, perhaps writing drivers gets much easier then? maybe they can't trust Intel with making SLI-capable chips?

NVIDIA doesn't want to lose their chipset business. If all they did was sell bridge chips to Intel, then they would lose quite a bit of revenue.
But, I do like your idea. Royalty fees for use of SLI on Intel boards.
I don't think Intel would like that idea though...
If NVIDIA actually delivered a reference board that was comparable to an Intel chipset board we wouldn't be having this problem
