Question ZALMAN CNPS 9700 NT:turn off LED light

ZALMAN CNPS 9700 NT has green LED, can there be a way to turn that off without affecting the fan?
Just not big on green LED

Since I'm asking, has anyone had to lap this? Or do they come completely flat?

    Thanks in advance

You could probably do some modding and pull the led's out of it..

In a zalman email, they recommended this site. They sell replacement fans, you can get non-led or a blue led one.

I have a 9700 LED and didn't have to lap it - the finish was perfect. Dunno about the NT, but I imagine it will be similar.

I see they have a Fatal1ty 120mm Red LED Replacement Fan but its:
    1) 120mm
    2) "for FS-C77 CPU Cooler"

maybe changing the LED would be an easier route?

I bought a Zalman CNPS9700 LED and the finish on the bottom is Perfect! Im a Tool and Die Maker and I can honestly say that the finish on the bottom of the 9700 isn't something you'd be able to produce at home with conventional lapping techniques. Its Been surface ground, Honed and Lapped. I couldn't believe it when I pulled it out of the box and looked at it. Another important note is that that particular peice was made and then fastened to the unit that holds the heat pipes. It is it's own seperate peice.

If you find out a way to remove the led without tearing up the fan please post back.

You can try to paint over the LEDs with a black marker (probably will decrease the intensity of the light), or stick a black insulation tape over the LEDs.

If I go that route I may tape the fins and sink and spray paint the whole fan black. Hate green leds!

would it be better to remove fan, then take off the LED light altogether, then replace fan back? Spraying the fins might degrade it cooling capability---just a guess of course.

back to original question, would the Fatal1ty 120mm Red LED Replacement Fan fit the 9700NT fan?
