They said a new socket would be introduced for Nehalem with the IMC and the new transport bus

    yup...

and its two in the roadmap because one of them is the desktop one and the other for servers....

skulltrail uses the server socket, so i bet the 1366 is the new server socket and is on that dsktop roadmap because skulltrail 2 (or whatever they will call nehalem version of it) will use server socket aswell.

and then the 1160 as the regular desktop socket.

Is bearlake-x the x38 and x48 motherboards? So if they use different sockets for the high end and mainstream, they can price discriminate much better.

ATM you can use pretty much any lga 775 chip in an x38 board. If they differentiate sockets, that cant be done in the future with the high end motherboard.

just looks like a penryn with IMC and less cache plus a pci-e controller, doesnt look that spectacular if you ask me, it will be good cpu, thats for sure, but not such a big step forward as conroe was over prescott.
    Looks good.
desktop platform only in 2009, i was expecting that one

Ohh I like...30% less power than Penryn on the same process for the same performance. Thats pretty kickass when looking on Penryns already very very low usage.

one thing stood out for me there is the native displayport/ HDMI compatibility

looks to me like a very powerful, low noise, low power media pci would bet they underclock really well also

i may buy the cheapest one on release :-)

    whats the estimate on these?

I surely hope no one puts the 2x12 plug where the reference board design has it

and move the cpu socket a bit towards the backpanel to increase the spacing between cpu cooler and ram slots...

You are forgetting that each core can now run two threads. That's a significant step in and of itself.

Yay for the return of HyperThreading. Oh how I have missed thee Otherwise Nehalem looks decent, I just hope DDR3 prices continue to drop otherwise it'll be a rough adoption.

    yeah not impressive at all
10-25% single threaded improvement over the best existing x86 CPU out there and 20-100% for multi threaded software.
It's not a new conroe, at least for desktop, but server...

As DDR3 becomes mainstream, the prices will drop. Look at where DDR2 started not that long ago? Intel will put up the Seed money just as they alone did for DDR2.
