    Bfg 8800 Gts Oc 512mb - Crashes!

Hey, I just got my brand new BFG 8800 GTS OC 512MB.
I've installed the nVidia drivers (169.25) and they were not working properly because it would crash in any 3D application. So I changed to the version that comes with the Graphics card's CD and it was all ok.
So the problem is that in games like COD4 or Crysis, during the loadings, it makes much noise. Here's the video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbMhAPlLAeg

    Hope you can help me.

    Best regards.

I had the same sort of noise on my 8800GTS 640, its a common problem with the 8 Series, don't think theres anything you can do about it, many people have this noise

same with my 640MB lol Booting Oblivion, but it seems it was only short periode, now it doesnt make any hissing noises, I just got myself a 512MB, didnt had time to test it yet. But it is more like the coils making noise of the PWM area, I woundt worry about it, I just installed the 169.21 WHQL drivers, didnt test it so I cant give a opinion.

On an interesting note I have the same issue with my 8800 GTS G92. I tracked the sound down and it was actually coming from my power supply. Interestingly enough I can hear a slight whine with running prime95 on all 4 cores as well.

I am using a PC Power and cooling 750 (which I just sent back today) We will see if the noise goes away when I get it back.

Thats strange on a new fan. I have had old fans do that, there noisy when I power up my computer and will quite down after a little while.

Does it make the noise with other drivers ?

It's not fans that are making the noise in my system, its an actual electrical hummm (like a high freq sound from a mosfet or choke) My machine is water cooled and I only have a couple 120 mm fans running at slow speeds. This electrical noise can be heard clearly over the fans.

The new GTS are power Pigs....With my 6000+ to 3.5ghz and the GTS heavily Overclocked it will make my mobo Screem as well....My Old GTS320 did not do this..Only the GTS512... Im am still happy though ..

Note : Fan on GTS512 set to 100% is louder than all 8 of my 120nm/108cfm Sunon's....I was like Holy Crapoly....

WOW ,,i just watched the video and thats way loud..When mine dose it ,,it is barely audiable and thats MAxing every thing in a Bench run..May be your PSU...Try a nother PCI-E molex...Then see what it does...

Soundslike a Choke screeming ..Are you shure its Not the Fan on Card ,,If you have a Mic ,,Put you mic up to it and record when crysis is loading...If the sound is louad @ the card thats your Problem...You can use the mic trick on the chokes too...The Mic will pic up slightest sound over the fans!

Have heard it can be related to insufficient power. IIRC, the cure for this with power supplies was dielectric grease on the coils.
    Current system:
    Case: Modded Watercooled Jpac
    CPU: Intel Q6600 @ 3.5GHz [1.47v] - OCCT stable

I had the exact same problem, if you check the framerate using fraps you will see that it is 1000+ and the card whines.

Force V-sync on in the forceware control panel and this will stop the whining.

Yes, actually I've noticed that it whines when my fps were 1000+ but I thought it was not important.

And guess what... It worked for me to!

Many thanks EVILCOSMOS and of course , others that tried to help me.

    Bfg 8800 Gts Oc 512mb - Crashes!

Hey again. I've changed to Windows XP but it still crashes, now with 169.21 -.-

I play ~10-15min. of Crysis and it crashes. Even in PES2008 it will happen.
I've underclocked it and it will crash again and again.
It's strange because I don't get any BSOD... My screen just freezes and I can't even access task manager via Ctrl+Alt+Delete, I have to push the reset button.

    Have you tried different drivers?

As noted in post #1 you had problems with a driver set nearly identical (.25 instead of .21) before.

Yes. I've tried 169.06, 169.25, 169.28 and now 169.21 and it's all the same... I get crashes all the time!

    I'd say blame your PSU.

A device from an unknown brand rated for 850W with 18A quad rail.
    tsk tsk tsk...

    Unknown brand? lol

At least in my country it is very well rated... and it's not a power issue, that's for sure!

Install Rivatuner and set the memory to 900Mhz then open any game While rivaTuner monitor is open...Play for only 5minutes no more and check temps...Id almost say the card is overheating and shutting down...

Better yet run the fan @100% and see if it still crashes!...In anygame

Also prey its not the memory..Once the memory starts crashing Black screen reboot or hard freeze it usually gets worse no matter the Driver used..it can do this with out artifacting!...Ive tested 5xGTS's for me and friends in the last two weeks...So far two have bit the dust...1 XFX GTS and 1EVGAGTS did that exact same thing with drivers but they eventually had lines and sqaures from memory overheat with out Clocking it above stock..This was after being able to play for a whole 1/2hour before problems of Pc shutting down! This also include buggy driver installs as well.

The one in my sig,, so far so good and its way overclocked...Its luck of the draw...
