It has 4 PCI-E X16 slots and a strange device which looks like a group of status LEDs in the corner.

Looks pretty nice by all accounts.
whats under the x48 platinum sticker? i can see the end of some letter under itwhats that green little thing on the last pic?
and whats the pciE extender for?
too bad the last 16x slots are next to each other and at the far bottom :/
"LED's" are the "Troubleshoot Poster" that's labelled on teh front of teh box.
Also looks like it's jsut a re-labelled X38...I can see the previous label sticking out from under the sticker.
For shame..they should have just made the sticker 1mm wider...![]()
PCI-E expander makes yellow slots work, saaya..., and sapphire's new "atomic" heatsink says that singleslot space doesn't matter

MSI, i love it !!!
It's the PCB of X38 Diamond
But since the difference between X38 board and X48 board is not so big, MSI can keep the manufacturing cost low by using X38's PCBs... they are good anyway

Now I wonder what it's like under chipset cooler...does it say X38, or X48?

It is an ES X48 Chipset... But the printed text is quite hard to see. (Pic 3)
When i was removing the cooling system, i noticed a small chip under the heatpipe, anyone know what is it for ? (Pic 2)
This is what under the PCI-E Expander (Pic 1)

I beleive that chip is Intel network controller? Sry for so many posts in your thread, but I have been awaiting this board. MSI boards are pretty cheap locally...2/3rds the price of other boards.
Some Intel-brand 965 and P35 boards have this chip, I am not sure that it is netwrok contrller, but 95% sure by it's location. 2 lan ports, one audio, 2 realtek chip, and i know one is audio(audio chip has caps around it)...so...it can only be so many things...
Neat, it even has a fair-ground attraction on it!

Hmm seems like a pattern with MSI boards. They use the same PCBs for at least two of their P35 boards. Same thing on those boards as this one with the sticker covering the other board.
