I count 36 fins on the NB heatsink, my count must have been off as i thought i saw 30 fins. The X38 models only have 22 fins....so it's much larger.

No kidding! Try updating the BIOS on the Gigabyte X38T and see what happens. You get the reboot of death!

And unless I'm reading the box right pairing the X48 chipset with DDR2 is the most retarded thing ever done. They might as well throw an AGP slot on it.

I got a Gigabyte, not just THIS one in perticular... but almost every gigabyte gas this backplate, and i can by NO MEANS mount a backplate on this, and i CANT remove it either couse then the NB cooling wont sit tight... maybe u can put a nut there? wth i didnt care about that and mounted the bolts to my block with some paper washers, i've allways used backplate but not this time...havent noticed any crashes couse of this... well well....

    dont like gigabyte

My X48T-DQ6 sample did very good, especially in memory overclocking.
Amazingly it surpassed my best shots taken with my "lucky - great MCH" P5K3 Deluxe.

That's a specific BIOS version issue.
They had a similar "death version" BIOS release for the X48T-DQ6 as well

It happens though...not only with Gigabyte

I don't know about their older models, but there are two bolts within the package to secure the NorthBridge cooler without using the Crazy Cool backplate.

    .
It wasn't with just one specific version, it was with all of them. Even after I reverted back to the origional BIOS I still get the reboot of death.

That was probably your own motherboards' fault and not the BIOSes fault.
    Probably a defective board

    Hi

Just Got my X48-DQ6, In the past I've had good luck with gigabyte compared to asus, NOT THIS TIME!!
out of the box my motherboard is reboting all the time, I had used it inittially with Q9300 and i failed to get my board to post, so i used an older cpu, and it did post so i went back to the Q9300 and it worked i installed windows but after some time while i was restaring it went into continuos rebooting again
I tried to update the bios but i could see no new releases
so is my board defictive or what??

    Thanks

Use your old CPU to flash to this BIOS version ( Click to download ), and try again.

Typo...GB use letters to denote beta releases, so F6b/c/d/e etc are betas.

the X48 (non-T) overclocks quite bad,
don't know what the X48-T will do.
