thanks for the tips.. i am getting ready to paint the inside for more of a blackout effect.

So what did you cool with that 120.2, aI am thinking of putting a 120.3 in there and only having the on/off and a cd/dvd but i am not sure of my coooling needs, i think i will have to run 2 seperate loops, since i am cooling a maximux extreme, fusion block, cpu and various gpu's.

Just an observation but I am finding I can post higher with the 333 strap and my QX9650 than with the 400 strap.

i have too joined the ranks of ME owners and i must say, it wasn't pretty earlier this afternoon. i grabbed the board last night and didn't get a chance to power it up until this morning and for the better part of the day, i was pulling what hair i have left out. coming over from a P5K3-Dlx, which was at the time coming from a P5B-Dlx/P5N32-E SLI, i was not to pleased with how much hassle and how picky this board has been voltage wise.

the P5K3-Dlx was priming at 550FSB within minutes after powering up for the first time. this ME monster was a whole different story. in the end, i have made a ton of progress and managed to get something reasonable out of it so far. this screenshot certainly was not going to happen on the P5K3-Dlx. single 32M, yes, but dual 32M would crap out around 960MHz give or take. Saaya was right...X38 seems to handle high clocks a little better:

click for full size including Memset and voltages...

still haven't messed with timings or anything like that. just happy to finally get a dual 32M ran at 1000MHz and on the 266 strap even. still not having as much luck with PL level at 450+ FSB having to use 7 but hopefully once i get a better feel with the board i can get PL6 at 450FSB+.

i am still not ready to give this board the praise that Camoflage is giving it but after a day, it seems to have some decent potential. i just wish i had a P5E3-Dlx to compare it with as comparing the X38 to P35 of the P5K3-Dlx isn't a fair fight

and to finish off my first night with this fattie, a shot of the setup:

i would think so with a 45nm. keep in mind though that 32M is all about the OS tweaks and 30-45+ seconds can be had from completely un-tweaked to a fully tweaked setup.

with my exceptionally tweaked, balls out sub 5GHz run on 65nm only a second behind you at a higher frequency, i would say you either have something strange going on or some windows tweaking to do. of course mine is at a higher FSB which really helps too but i would still think a decent 45nm setup should crush a highly optomized 65nm run at similar CPU/RAM frequencies.

are you using any form of copy wazza for your run?
    is LargeSystemCache enabled?

those two alone are worth a solid 20+ seconds on some setups.

    LargeSystemCache:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management]
    "LargeSystemCache"=dword:00000001

and just do a search for copy wazza, there are numerous different methods but no distinctive tutorial. i did up a screencast that incorporates copy wazza and ERAM a while back but it isn't the best method anymore in my opinion. it is worth about 8-9 seconds though in 32M:

memset timings for cellshock 1800 on Maximus Extreme

Hi.. i wonder if i can ask for your advice.. im a relative noob at oc'ing ram (cpu no problem). i've a similar rig to you but have had problems getting my ram running at anywhere near full speed... please can you post up your memset sceenshots (or bios settings?) so i can compare mine and try and identify the problem?

    many thanks,

    -- Jez

asus maximus extreme (x38 mobo). intel qx9650: fsb 450. cpu multiplier 8.5 ddr3 cellshock 2x1gb, 1800mhz 8.7.6.21. nvidia 8800gtx. gigabyte 3d mercury case, with watercooling of cpu, nb, and gfx card (3 loops off one rad, two s-flex fans swapped for the stock gigabyte noisy ones).

I have also had the 2 x 2GB OCZ DDR3-1600 EB Kit that cost almost £600!! , which refuse to boot at the advertised speed.. so I RMAed it and got the 1800 CellShock. Absolutely loving it!!

Note that the Maximus has a 2 phase Northbridge power controller, whereas the Formula, and in fact all my other motherboards, has only single phase. It might have contributed!!

Also what temp was that run on Im hoping thats a lot colder than a normal SS . My cascade should be ready shortly and ill see what it can do at less than -100c... http://www.blazingpc.com/forum/showt...ex.html?t=6625

But more importantly for the purposes of the SuperPi discussion I am surprised that your score is not lower.

how hard is it do take the heat sink off to do that? I'm not new to doing this, but on a board with this kind of heat sink, and most I ever paid for a MB makes me a little nervous

i had pretty decent contact on the northbridge with the stock paste but the southbridge and crosslink were pretty poor, but weren't really hot so it doesn't really effect much. i really should have taken pics while doing it. i take photos of everything else, not sure why i didn't doing this.

either way, after applying AS5 on the northbridge, temps seem to be a little better but nothing spectacular. one big tip though...acetone eats that stock thermal pad like nothing. definitely worth picking some up to save a big hassle.
