Yea, close to $1600.00 for the memory for the minimum..
We priced one out a few weeks ago for laughs.
Top shelf your looking at $12-13K
    Now about SkullTrail being expensive??

Oh, PSU: They make a special one for it..1200a..I think it's 120a on the +12 line..

Finally, some news of skulltrail. Tri SLI support ist the best news I heard this year, at last we can build SLI systems w/o using crappy nv chipsets
But... do you really need QX CPUs?

No, any socket 771 CPU will do

I read you need the Core 2 Extreme chips in the 771 variant.
And by the way, you obviously meant LGA 771 .

The SkullTrail mobo isn't meant for just enthusiasts It's supposed to appeal to the workstation market as well, and they really don't need QX9775's.

That's what I was hoping but for the workstation market, there are the Tyan/Supermicro Seaburg-based motherboards as well. Just like Skulltrail but lacking great oc options.

Can you give me a link on that? I'd love to run two E5405 Xeons on a Skulltrail!

All the demo systems were 2 Harpertowns, up until the most recent ones at IDF, so it should

SkullTrail is a dual socket, dual quad core, enthusiast platform. It features 2 QX9775 LGA771 Yorkfield (really Harpertown) CPUs running at 3.2ghz. It can use regular Harpertowns too

It also has 4 PCIe x16 2.0 slots for Tri-SLI or CrossFire X

Just enthusiast minded dual LGA771 board with 5400 series chipset, does not require QX9775 to be called "skulltrail."

Harpertown are LGA771 Yorkfields. The board will not take LGA775 CPU's.

Great, thanks for clearing that up folks. Now only "problem" remaining is the use of FB-DIMMs. They don't clock well...

Now, here`s me, a little guy dreaming of a time of new "BP6" (still brings back memories of building the beast with 2x300Mhz celerons@ 2x450Mhz). Now can some manyfacturer please make us all a cheap dual socket that can take cheap memory/cheap quads and OC like a bat out of hell? Is it really too much to ask?

you can get a dual socket 771 board for ~200 - 300$, 2x E5405 Quadcore Xeons for 250$ each (if you can find them in stock somewhere) and 4 GB Ram (2x2 GB FB-DIMMS) for 250$.

makes ~1000$ for a 8 core beast with 4 GB ram... not that expensive

hehe.. i wasnt advicing to buy it.. i picked whats compatible with cheap dual s771 boards. was just trying to point out that the entry lvl pricing is rather low these days.

but yep.. regular ddr2 would be the better choice.
