I have about 10 USB devices and I have tried moving them around. Are there cetain devices to avoid on certain ports ?

And yes on the OC, just running the FSB @ 380.

I also get an annoying click from one of the HDD's, like it's powering off - which really makes me nervous.

There you have your own answer of why you are having problems: VISTA!!

I have dual boot XP and VIsta. And I do have that powering off click on my second drive (backup). Vista does that to "save energy" and that's perfectly normal, nothing to be afraid. Once you click back on a folder of that drive it will power on again.

As for the wake-up function problem with standby, wonder no more, Vista IS buggy as hell. And I bet the OS has driver compatibility problems... I have had the same behavior you're decribing with Vista... with XP everything is mint...

Do yourself a favor and unistall that POS, or at least make yourself a dual boot, XP and VIsta, and use Windows XP to do serious computing and gaming. You can leave Vista just for the bling and to impress girls

It will be a transition OS and then everybody will jump on the WIndows 7 bandwagon. I can tell you no corporation will use Vista AFAIK.

I have used Vista on 3 of my prior set-ups and had no issues. I have used the Maximus Formula, the Intel DX38BT, the Badaxe2 and now this, and they had no sleep or suspend issues - or the clicking. Of those, the Maximus was the worst for bugs. Before I pitch this board I will give my old XP a try.

Try Vista64.. Works like a champ, but only if you use Microsofts Default Drivers & Update VIA Device Manager.... Asus's Drivers Caused My OS to Malfunction (Including my Sleep Mode)....

Vista 64, IMHO "meh".(no offense here)

Tried it, it works beautifully with 3d apps like Maya 2008 and Max 2008. Other then that... still see unstable results...

And tried also Crysis runing in Vista 64.... it's not better than 32 bit, performance pretty much sucks at very high settings. I'm sticking with XP...

(BTW I'm not ranting against M$) I think the situation might get better if they patch this OS in a good way

Lol... None Taken.... Just finished Crysis last week - Game Play was Bad A$$ on Very High... The only issue I had was when I decided to exit the game... It would freeze up... Had to use CTRL-ALT-DELETE a few times... Yes Vista is buggy, but so was XP in the beginning…

Wow… Unbelievable difference in memory performance between Bios 301 & 601…. Used the same settings for both…. Memory latency was 65 ns with v301 and 60.3ns with v601….
Has anyone tested the new version 804… Also I notice Asus removed v601 from there website????

Hey guys. I had a problem where my system would only POST exactly once, then never again. I would get a nice beep, a normal BIOS start-up, and I could go in there and do some settings, but when it restarted, I'd just get a black screen (no video) and no beep codes. Successive reboots would produce the same result, even if I didn't change the settings.

To get it to POST again I would have to pop out the battery and reset the bios settings with that jumper! This happened even with a minimally equipped system (just one stick of ram (the regular 1066MHz stuff crucial.com recommends), qx9650 cpu, and NO peripherals (no hard drives, optical, floppy, etc)!

Based on a post I think I read here somewhere, I suspected that each time I went into BIOS and then exited that it was saving some jumbled values and upon the next reboot, could not read its own mess. What I did to fix the problem was explicitly enter all the values for my RAM that the bios detected. It then would save my own values properly and POST on the next bootup (even though it detected them properly!).

I suspect you guys never experienced this problem because you are all HARD CORE and never accept the default ram timings, always putting your own timings in there from the get-go . So you had no idea this motherboard was a problem for regular joes like me.

Anyway, it was this thread that motivated me and gave me ideas to get this problem solved. I am pretty sure someone even mentioned the explicit setting of ram values, but I cannot find that post to credit the individual.

Sorry - I should have mentioned that. I just bought my board and it was shipped to me with 0601. Although I considered re-flashing, I did not do this. So I am still using 0601 and my computer seems to be working fine. I also have all 4 gigs of ram in right now (2 x 2gb, standard 1066MHz crucial).

Thanks, thats good it shipped with 601, I get my QX9650 today but I've had my MB for all most a month now so I don't think I have 601 in it?

I think 0601 came out in mid-november so you probably don't have it. Just look for the bios version on startup.

Another poster states that even if you have an unsupported CPU (qx9650 on a pre-0601 bios) that it will still post for you with a cpu error - good enough to use EZ flash and get up to 0601. So hopefully you won't have to borrow a CPU just to flash. Unless of course you have been USING your p5e3 for a month now where this would not be an issue. Just flash before you switch chips.

No its just sitting in the box, I'm right in the middle of tearing down my FX55 rig to make room for the P5E3 rig...So hopefully it will post, I think I'll try the new 804 bios that showed up at Asus website the other day, I'm sort of waiting to get a report on it now?

Question... Any ideas why Core 3 is running cooler than the rest... It's always been that way... Remounted water block a few times.... Always the same....???

With the Asus EZ Flash 2 utility! Save the BIOS to a USB pendrive, if you want, both of 804, 704 and in the BIOS (Asus EZ Flash) you can change, which want you install.

Lapping sounds like a good idea..... Has anyone here tried it before...? I'm afraid I would just make it worse... Found the following pictures on OC3D Forums...

I have Q6600 G0 and QX6950 C0 Retail. I lapped mine Q6600 without problem, but long time to do it! I won 6-8C! For Q6600 the 0601 was the best, for the XQ is 0704.

Okay.. I'm convinced.... I'm going to see if I can find the paper needed for the job.... Should I lap the water block too....?

On another note - going to stick with 3.7ghz over 3.6.... Runs smoother... Software with 3.6 setting seemed to lag a bit... Ooo and I just increased my Benchmark to 16090... I love my P5E3....
