i would if only to stay with the latest chipset. and im sure when X38 matures it can be a little better than P35.

depends on your cooling and ambients as well as your CPU(dual, quad?) i guess but as long as you arent loading all 4 cores(or 2) above 70C 24/7 I dont see a problem. in fact its fair to say that even settings that are a little too hot in 4xPrime will still be fine 24/7 as you arent likely to simulate that full load in more than a few instances of normal operation.

@WeaponX Intel reccomends that you shouldn't exceed 1.5V mark for 24/7 on C2D and C2Q.
But the limits of vcore depend on your cooling.

Thanks guys, so far I'm at 1.4v and at 3.6 (400x9) I'm wishing I can push it more but I think this is the limit.

I think you can go higher even on some budget cooling.
400fsb is not that much of an increase. Try some more mhz.

Setup in the sig, I used water for this:

The fsb is holding me back I think, I can do 3d at 4.3ghz. I tried benching my xfx 8800gt but it's very crappy, even at 35C load and 1.36v I could do only 846mhz on the core.

What do you mean by picky?
You just go to their website, see what's compatible and you're set.

What fsb/dram relatio are you guys using on this mobo?
So far, for SPi 1M, 4:5 has shown the best for me on P35.

    4:5 s best for me too so far, currently running Q6600 @ 3.66ghz = 1.5v, 3gb Crucial Ballistix @ 5-5-5-15 1100mhz = 2.23v, FSB 458 = 1.53v NB = 1.53v GTL's = 104/104/115.

Not sure I need all that CPU volts ATM, but working on getting the CPU mhz higher ATM.

i am going to buy this mobo next week to use it with my 6300 (500fsb 24/7) for now and with a penryn later in 2008.

If you could swap your dfi with maximus formula SE for FREE would you do it?

I started to read all these pages but I need a whole day!

Who are you on about swapping with, and the answer to that from me would be a BIG MASSIVE NO, i had a maximus formula SE board, it was a e clocker compared to this one, I couldnt wait to get rid of it, the best clock I could get out of me CPU on the ASUS was 3.3ghz Stable, I later found out that ASUS received a bad batch of P35 NB's which they stuck on the Formula's, and then by the time ASUS realised, they had already shipped and sold them as the boards were in high demand at the time, never again, put me off ASUS for life.

    very convincing answer Seanie's Show
(however i only read excellent post about the maximus series except the P5E)
I will buy the dfi as I had a few bad moments with asus before.

In addition to that, there is the excellent dfi support for everything you need!

Out of 6 physical boards (not including reviews) boards between me and mates, I only ever saw 2 with good-excellent clocks, the other 4 were rubbish.

you said it yourself, you have had a few bad moments with the ASUS, and you seem very desperate to get rid of it too, its nothing to be ashamed of, I was in the same position, I was just holding out for the DFI P35 release, in the end I gave up waiting for the UK release and got it shipped in from OpenJL, France.

Perhaps Abit IP35-Pro or Foxconn Mars or any Asus Blitz for that matter.

Well on the flip side, I'm using Vista64, X-FI, EVGA 8800GTX and have no problem with sound. Played CoD4, WOW, Jade Empire, and EQ2 so far. I also use ITunes with no sound issues, (ITunes has a couple minor issues with 64 bit OS).

I do use the PCI slot furthest from the GPU for the X-FI

No its not cheaper, cost me about £200 from france, which is what ebuyer were selling them at originally, i believe they have come down in price now though, so it would be cheaper from ebuyer now. However when I brought mine from france, it was still another month and a half before I started seeing them popping up in the UK, im an inpatient sod and wasnt willing to wait the extra month or so.

What does test #6 deal with exactly? Do you mind sharing what ram you are using, and at what clocks and voltage you were feeing your ram and NB before noticing these problems? I am always worried of something like this happening to my system so want to compare what you are running to what I am running. Thanks.

BTW, what are sure tale signs of a FSB wall? Is it a complete no boot/post situation or just a lack of being able to regain stability at said speeds? Just looking for some answers on what to look for on whether I am actually hitting a wall that I won't be able to get over or if I simply need to do more work on timings and voltages.

Would anyone mind sharing what they are getting as a max FSB on the quad core with 4GB of ram? I am maxing out at about 468mhz. This primes for over 22h without issue but going to 470 causes very serious instability with lockups, system shutdowns etc. 2mhz is all it takes to throw this thing out of wack. I haven't fooled with more voltage yet but am wondering if 468mhz with 4gb of ram and a quad core is below average, average or above average for what I am doing. The ram is running at 1124mhz 5-5-5-12 timings. Thanks.

Of the negatives listed all have been addressed with BIOS updates with the exception of voltage monitoring and ram incompatibility.

Few software monitoring utilities are accurate. The inaccuracies found on this board is the result of the logarithm used by ITE. Oskar is working with them to obtain the source code so that it can be modified.

There is a compatibility issue with Micron D9GKX based memory. The issue lies with the chipset and as such all P35 boards have this issue.
