That might be fine for a C2D but might be a problem for a C2Q.

he means that is ok for a dual core because it has only one die, so it doesn't matter which way the hole in the bracket goes, but with quads you have two dies to cool so it matters how you position the hole, now according to RLM that way (which is not logical) is better, but we have to see more testing to see which way is better

    Pretty much dead on.

With a C2D, both cores are on the same die, which is right under the impingement plate. It still might have an affect on temps if mounted "wrong" (using term loosely here), but it would likely be so minimal that your likely to never notice.

With a quad, I'd rather have the water come down between the dies and have 50% of the water cool one die and the other 50% cool the other die. If mounted the "wrong" way, your now asking 50% of the water to cool all the cores and the other 50% to cool the rest of the die. Problem is, the 50% of water your asking to take the heat away now has 50% more heat to deal with thanks to the 2 extra cores. When mounted "properly", the water will hit between the dies (center slot) or just at the inside edge of the dies (outer slots), this "should" give slightly better performance.

Yes, RLM's test results make no sense to me either, which leads me to believe there is some variable that isn't being taken into consideration here. At this point in time, I can't tell if it's something in his setup, or something wrong with our collective thinking. I think that only time and much more testing can tell us the answer to that question.
