Lets talk breaking the HTT 230 limit on k10 here

Tony I did some quick tests know, is there some test you would like me to run?
I will be getting my DFI 790 at the end of this week or erly next week. Shop in Germany says 3-5 days to shipping, keeping figers crossed fore this week.

Setup:
Gigabyte 790-DQ6 F3A bios
Ballistix 8500
HD 2900XT Cat 7.11
Seventeam 650
Phenom X4 9500 CAAZB AA 0743 DPDW Bach 0191

Did a test with Wprime and 3Dmark 06 to see if there was any difference. Cpu @ 250*10 and 227*11 Ram @ 500\543 5-4-4-10-11

First the max of my CPU, 2750mhz 250*11 just above 4k 3Dmark06 cpu score. My Cpu is funny, 2750 is ALMOST prime stable - one core craps out after 50min-5h other 3 cores is fine... BUT i can´t even run 06 at 2800mhz.

Max My cpu can do:


Low northbridge and HTT


"High Speed"


Wprime High


Wprime Low


There is a preformace gain in running High north bridge speed´s, it not much but it´s there. I think that my CPU is bottlednecked my 2300mhz northbride speed and low HTT, pitty that AMD can´t get them to run @ HT 3,0 this is more like HT 1,7 Wonder if B3 will fix this....

Question, can't you break the 300MHz ref HTT with a low NB Clock (say sub 2GHz) ?

so really what we say when reviewers were trying to put the engineering samples up to 3 GHZ to test it against a yorkie it was running at full potential?
their for meaning there is alot more to these chips then we originally thought?

Well i was given some insider info and help by an old friend; he did not mention 00 is 4 01 is 5 etc. I will double check.

I will be receiving a new bios from DFI tomorrow,if i have time i will rename all the hex options to what they are in DEC so its easy to understand.

asus, msi, gigabyte...all have NB multi manipulation being built into bios right now, so things are going to get easier.

thank bingo13, macci and the OP for getting this info into the right hands, we want the boards to work as best they can.

now you have some of the info needed to spot poor reviews you know there will be a few..LOL

HTT speeds are still lower than most would hope, I hit 250 tonight to memtest but the real test is in windows using AOD where true manipulation without bios bugs will tell a better story.

Northbridge frequency ID. Read-write. Cold reset: value varies by product. After a cold reset, this specifies the FID at which the NB is designed to operate. After a warm or cold reset, the NB FID may or may not be reflected in this field, based on the state of NbFidEn. The NB FID may be updated to the value of this field through a warm or cold reset if NbFidEn=1. If that has occurred, then the NB COF is specified by:
• NB COF = 200 MHz * (F3xD4[NbFid] + 4h) / (2^MSRC001_00[68:64][NbDid]).

This field must be programmed to the requirements specified in MSRC001_0071[MaxNbFid] and must be less than or equal to 1Bh, otherwise undefined behavior results. This field must be programmed to the same value for all nodes in the coherent fabric as specified by 2.4.2.6 [BIOS Northbridge COF and VID Configuration] on page 35. that's right, but now we know where to go to with the FID and DID, that's something that Tony explained very nice.

also in the other thread KTE made a nice example for normal people.

Its 1:07am, i have a separate workshop that i have to go out to and i purposely keep it cold so over clocking is real easy. I have a water cooling setup that was running at 3c all day with 2 boards running off it and it never increased in temperature and all i used to cool the water was the lovely British cold weather.

so yes its late...and its cold, and you will have to wait if you want the bios off me.
