    Update: 12-9-07

From Thermalright website, I highlighted where it applies to the Maximus.

If ordering online, if it does not mention that the HR-09 U/S is "Type 2" then the component is a "Type 1".

Sites that I know of that carry the HR-09 U/S Type 2:

    Sidewinder.com

    SVC.com

    Petrastechshop.com Carries Type1, Type2 and Type3

Do my MOSFET's need more cooling than stock? I saw some other people putting more cooling on them.

I currently have a Q6600 G0 at 3.45GHZ with 1.39Vcore, and once I get another radiator hope to go as high as 4GHZ. My MOSFET stock heatsink gets pretty hot right now. Should I pull the thermal tape off of them and use some arctic ceramique? Would that even help? Should I get some better heatsinks or even blocks for them? Thanks

I think you will find that most is unknow data at this time. I upgraded the MOSFET sink due to me just having more faith in the Thermalright sink, over the stock one. Not sure if I really needed to or not.

I considered arctic ceramique, but didn't think that I could insure all chips would make contact with the sink. The thermal tape gave me more slush room. It dosen't take much to bow your mobo, and if your sink isn't 100% flush with all chips, one will be getting no help at all.

I have no doubt that arctic ceramique would transfer heat better than thermal tape, but to me the risk was too high.

In the end I felt like thermal tape, and the Thermalright sinks would probably keep me in the safe zone, what ever that is...

I am officially considering it to be an upgrade over the stock sink, so it will have to do!

I ended up using the Thermalright tape. They used real copper in their sink, and look pritty cool for a heat sink too.
I can only hope they didn't cheep out on their tape?

I still will probably add another fan for them? Not sure until I remount everything.

Are you thinking of giving some Thermalright's a try?
Everything else on the board is getting swapped, so why cant the mosfets get some action too .

The HR-09U Type2s fit perfectlly, so to confirm, if you guys want an after market cooler for your mosfets on the Maximus the Thermarght HR-09U Type2 is the one you should get.
wow that looks 100% bad ass!, how are your NB temps? iam thinking about going this route with my maximus SE aswell, still room for a 8800GTX with that HR05?,
also on your mosfets you used both HR-09U type 2. for both sides? thx. : D

@kaiden, I'm still waiting on some more stuff to come in before I get it all fired up again, so I can't say about the temp with this setup right now but I'll keep you guys posted.

I tried my 2900XT stock and the SB cooler was in the way so I think your 8800GXT may have the same problem I can't confirm that thou. I would suggest using the HR-05 SLI version and you should be good to go. I'm installing a DangerDen DD29XT water block to my GPU so this setup will work for me.

Yup, HR-09U Type2 on both mosfets, you can use the HR-09S if you want to especially if you have a big heatsink just make sure you get the Type2 version.

@Darkatom, if you check my post earlier you will see some links to where you can get the Type2's at. If the site does not say Type2 on them then they are Type1.

    Hope that helps

i think the hr05 on northbridge would fit with my GTX, then HR05-SLI on the Southbridge?
wish i had both coolers now so i could test fit em, maybe ill have to go with a smaller cooler, like enzotech on the SB wont look as cool as 2 HR05's tho >.<

Your probably right, but you can live with it.

    1 Un-cooling related trivia thing:
Due to the info posted in the main Maximus SE thread, I will be running my memory on the White slots. I also had it confirmed that Vista Ultimate should still install fine with my 4GB plugged in.
I was thinking I had to put 1 module in, install some hot fix, and then install my second memory module.
I now believe that to be incorrect.
    UV Blue Slot Protectors installed.

i believe that to be true aswell, from what ive heard, using the white slots for highly clocked ram is recommended. please let me know if this is false.

Hi everyone, this is my first post in this thread. I have the following problem:
I've watercooled my rig and my CPU temp is about 60C in idle state. I reassambled the water block applying AS 5 between CPU and D-Tek, changed all the fittings and hoses to one dimension - 1/4" and still have no idea why it gets so freaking hot? Any help for an unexperienced watercooler (this is my first loop, and I haven't had any experience with watercooling before)? Will appreciate!!

I forgot to mention, my tubings (innovatek) and fittings are all 1/4", loop order is: pump (500 L/h)-cpu-nb-radiator (Thermaltake TMG1)-gpu-sb-waterflow indicator-temperature meter-radiator-reservuar. I use Thermaltake uv sensitive coolant, arctic silver 5. My CPU is at 450x8 FSB. I use Everest to read temperatures as well as BIOS.

Not sure what to think about your CPU temp...
I am too new to water cooling to help you.. (First Build for me)
    Look on this page:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...60945&page=161
Others are having some temp issues too.

No EK NB block yet here in Ohio, 'Creek Tha Gray'.
What State do you linve in?

We both ordered on 11/20/07. They must be on the slow boat from Slovenia....
    Slovenia on the map: https://www.cia.gov/library/publicat...k/geos/si.html
My Wife thinks it will take 1 full month to receive my NB block, due to EK's location.
I have been telling her she is wrong, but she is getting more right every day.
Guess that is the problem living in Americia, and ordering directly from EK.

i've got the non SE board as i was always intending to put a mcw30 on.

in the same loop as my G0 Q6600 on a 120.3 - with 1.5v it's around 31-32c under load so it's working pretty nice, using some BGA ramsinks for the SB which hold about 37-38c.

made up some custom bolts and screws for the mosfet sinks + using steel backplates for them and the cpu block ...no warp!!!

    Q6600 currently @ 3.8ghz with 1.45v mid 40's under load ....great board!!

I'm no expert either as I'm still in the process of building my 1st loop. However, looking at your components and having read the guides, I would make the following comments:

    1. That's a lot of components to cool with a single small radiator. I'd say you're trying to cool too much and should consider either adding more radiators (or a larger one) or alternatively make a separate loop for the GPU.
    2. If neither of the above options are viable, you could try changing the loop order so that the radiator comes just before the cpu. This may help a little, but don't expect miracles.

Also note that, whilst you pump may be rated at 500L/h, with 1/4" tubing it's likely to perform considerable less than that and therefore will result in additional heat being dumped into the loop. Check this thread on the impact of tubing size. The results show that the overall impact is minimal, but considering your loop, it's not going to help.

    Hope this helps.

Got a question for you guys, since I'm only watercooling my CPU and the GPU with a ThermoChill PA120.2 rad which will be mounted on the top and inside the case what would give me the best results...fans pushing or fans pulling air through the rad?

You seriously underestimated your cooling abilities. I originally planned to cool my CPU, NB, GPU. Left the WC block off of the 8800GT as I was not ready to mod it yet (was a new addition after I built the loop). With just the CPU and NB cooled with a MCR320, and crashes happening after Water cooling temp hits 10*C above ambient with 3 fans on max. NEway, for maximum efficiency, when I do my next loop, IF my components/MB survive, is to have a MCR320+3fans/pump on each component. The goal under full load is to have WC loop temp=ambient temp.

I'm thinking about putting my NB on a second loop with my gpu inside my TJ09. I drew a very rough pic to illustrate. How does it look ?

Edit: thats a maximus board so this post belongs here .

Finally i got the time to put the WC-blocks on.
NB goes down from 49-52celsius under load and air to 35.5celsius with EK NB S-MAX on naked core since the IHS came of when resested heatpipe in first place. need to have 1.61V on NB to get 4x1GB to work properly.
Rest of the loop is Dtek Fuzion, EK FC8800 GTX/Ultra. PA 120.3 and MCP 655.
SB went down from 45-48celsius to 36cesius wiht Thermalright HR05 SLl/IFX and an old glacialtech 80mm fan on that.

    Thanks for the post.

A loaded NB temp of 50C, moving down to 35C is impressive. It can only add to the stability of your mobo.
