    First OC attempt Q6600 @ 3.6ghz 1.272v

I just wanted to share with you guys what I've done with my new computer.

    I have the following:

Antec Nine Hundred with Zalman 120mm red led fans
Q6600 G0 with a Tuniq Tower with the fan blowing out the back of the case
    Asus Maximus Formula SE
2 GB of Crucial Ballistix which I believe has D9 chips on it.
HD2900Pro which is slightly overclocked (which I will work on more later on)
    Corsair HX620W

This has been my first attempt at overclocking and I've had some really good help from my friend off of these boards ..... Patriote.

Well I've been running Prime95 for 5 hours and 15 minutes. It's still running as I type this letter from when I took the screenshot.

I know I'm supposed to run it for longer but I'm never in my house when I'm not sleeping for more than about 6 hours. I want to be able to watch it and I can't do that while I'm sleeping. I think that if it's going on 5.5 hours and hasn't had an error at 100% then I should be completely stable when I'm playing my games and doing other stuff. Mind you this picture is while I'm on ventrilo, uploading the image through my FTP and browsing websites etc. So I think it's pretty damned stable.

Well here's the screenshot. Since this is my first time if you guys need any more information then please ask and I'll figure it out for you guys.

Oh yeah, also, I was having big vdrop+vdroop with the maximus but I enabled Loadline Calibration in the Bios and it completely went away. What I set in bios is maybe .01 off from what I have at 100% load.

All other voltages are set to auto because I don't know how to mess with them really.

I'm going to work on my memory now because I think that 3.6 should be good enough for me atm.

Then I'm going to overclock my GPU and see how much I can do to it. May get the HR-03/600 for it and put it on and see how that works.

Thanks for listening to my ran

I bought the motherboard from clubit.com about 11/7/07.

I hope that answers your questions.

Yah.... you are not relying on CPUZ to give you your vcore are you?

CPUZ has not reported correct vcore for well... at least 2 years...

Even if its 1.5volts 3.6 is a nice OC... TBH I do not know why I even bother overclocking this cpu

You can sync your RAM 1:1 because your FSB is also 400. Then start working on the timings, you should have no worries getting CAS 3 and tight timings, could even pull your subtimings down if you really want to tweak it. Auto Vcore is about 1.27v anyway and I doubt it would raise to over 1.3v unless you set it.

Set your RAM voltage manually to 2.1v before you try reduce timings, or overclock it.

Nice OC. I do believe that a 1:1 FSB:DRAM is more important than tight mem timings unless you are running highly specialized software like Seventeen or Bust

I'm sorry, I'm new to the OC'ing and I forgot to look at the batch before I installed the CPU.

1.41 does report right vcore. I have it set in bios manually and it's only .01 off from the cpu-z under 100% load.

I am thinking of dremeling the inside of the antec nine hundred for better cable routing. If I do I'll take the heatsink off and get the batch number, unless I can find it somewhere else.

Also, when I took it off of auto which was idling at 29 celcius at stock it was sitting at 1.2 so I have raised it to 1.285 and it's idling at 32-32-36-36.

please show another program such as speedfan
which is what you should be using anyways.

1.272 is damn near impossible for any cpu let alone a quad core.
sorry to say that but its true.
my 6600 ES was one of the few chips here to ever hit 3.6 at that low of voltage (3.6 @ 1.28v)
i just find it pretty hard to believe a quad doing that.

1.36v is close to the best i have seen yet.

there is always that golden cpu thats for sure, but even so..

prove the voltage with a DMM directly onto the board or with speedfan or some other program. cpu-z is not to be trusted (not totally atleast)

*edit* i do see your VID is 1.2v so... thats a VERY good VID which does show favor to you.
but anyways show us another program showing voltages or a dmm

lestat, my Q6600 can boot and play just fine @ 3,8GHz and 1,352V but for stability I gotta go at 1,384V... I could do 3,6GHz at about 1,3-1,32V so it may be possible, but I gotta say 1,27V is definetaly impressive!

An E6850 also runs @ 3.0ghz at stock. The Q6600 runs @ 2.4ghz. So you can't really compare the two.

Tsaroth, you can check the Batch/FPO# on the box.. It also states the pack date.

Wow , what's the batch of this jem ?

congrats for this starting OC let see some 4000+ .

So the low vid is not a legend and seems to be more accurate then the simple batch code for the potential OC.

Don't these temp sound a little bit hot for only sub 1,3v ?

    Oh man you're wrong. :P

    My Q6600 L740A740 can do 3600mhz 1,288V and 3800mhz 1,39V.

The problem with this chip is hot temperature, but I think to lapping it.

it seems those new batches got low VIDs and requiring low volts to achieve 3.6+ huh?

    Yes. Mine is 1,2125V.
But my old G0 arrived @ 503mhz fsb instead this arrive only 485 under single stage.

So, this is a good cpu for daily but bad cpu for overclock with freeze.
