    Bending a HR-03+ heatpipes ?!?!

The HR-03+ i have is taking up all my PCI slots and the fan mounted is choked by the x-fi. If i could bend the pipes so that the heatsink was parallel to the side of the chassis, i could cut a hole for a fan and improve airflow / cooling. I'm getting awesome temps as it is but I still think this will improve things

Check the pic to see what i'd like to do

    Image taken from http://www.overclock.net/cooling-exp...s-hr-03-a.html

Any thoughts or comments before i go about the task?

That is one of the largest CPU heatsinks I have ever seen.
The TRU and TRUE are about 3/4 or less of that size, and they manage to perform better. Crazy hum?

the only shot you'd have it to blowtorch to the pipes and bend them slowly.....even then I'm not sure it can be done w/o damaging the pipes.....

Probably a little late now to say it, if you're willing to spend that much money on air cooling, why not go water? Because I haven't seen a case that will let you fir all of that in once you're done bending it.

I've bent mine out before w/o cracking and w/o using heat. You'll just have to bend the pipes slowly. Also, don't plan on bending them back to the closed position once you've done this or you will more than likely crack the pipes.

I have a thought and a responce. I looked at the thread you linked to and I cant wait for that guy to have kids. I garontee he goes back to using a case shortly after the kids start to crawl. After his kid rips down that HS like a house of cards.
Boy that info was old. As am I. Currently my kids have taken over my desktops. They are both sporting matching GTX1080's. Last Christmas I got everyone Oculuses and thus GTX1080's. My eldest is some sort of CSGO champion gold label something or other. Me I work and shoot real guns. Build Comps as needed.

One of the few advantages to getting older is there are no kids to mess with things..
I have a split-level house and no kids are allowed downstairs where the machines are.

im not allowed near kids, or the local all girl school for that matter ... *joke*

all my nieces and nephews are destructive, my old girl (mother) said i was worse. thing is i remember how i was and knowing that i was such a lil bar steward i wont have kids!

i'll get a torch to heat the pipes and get onto it next week. will have to cut a whole in the side of the chassis too, yay. will post results (and pictures of my butchered case) soon

I find heatpipes are easy to bend to shape if you are careful and take it slowly. I wouldnt try and bend them back though or be too rough or you will make them buckle.

I once considered bending an accelero s1 like in the first picture to see if I could fit it to the inside card on a 7950gx2 (didnt bother in the end).

well i'll be doing it in the week.

the orientation of the fans were brought to my attention aswell but a closer look reveals he is using the metal brackets, hence the quarter turn for retention to work

yes you can, I've done it on my regular HR-03, another few members on here have done it on their HR-03 Plus

it is very tight to fit, but the clips have immense tensile strength.

the retention bracket is like 15mm too short either side?!?! triangles fit a 90mm fan holes fine

yeah i saw that but they are springing off for me

so i just zip tied it. i just need to bend the heatpipes which will improve airflow no end.
