Naked Q6600

Thanks all, I hope I will regain some respect here I don't like my Q6600 really much, It runs to hot, I wish I could get a different stepping. I'm surprised that this cpu is still working, I was heating this thing with a lighter for an hour since I couldn't get the ihs to come off. At last I took a screwdriver and popped this baby out. I will try to remount now, It's 2am over here, if I see any improvement, I'll crack my window and bench spi.

No problem, I am sure you can send it back and tell them you think your chip is defective since no IHS or anything.

You need to remove the latch mechanism for ideal contact. I did this sometime ago with a QX6700 (I may have been the first actually...) and I found I got "passable" temps with the hold-down still intact, but once I removed it (possible to do just by bending it a little so it can be put back on) contact was much better. The arm can be left on depending on the heatsink you're using, but the hold down has to go.
