i would suggest everyone to connect it, wont hurt to get a bit more performance.
plugged mine in from day1 even though using 1x gfx. I always work on the basis if it's there connect it

    Edit:
@larry try these as a reference 9x400 13hr stable in later runs it went with vc @1.40, at your lower fsb should be fine.

    luck

Well I finally went ahead and did a bios update. Went from the F3 to the F6b. Was a mission, to re-clock everything, but it's up and running! One thing for sure, is I clocked it 200mhz slower, but, the voltage is much less from 1.58 to 1.48......

tried a few different bioses for X38T-DQ6 with the yorkfield

    F2 stock
not bad but RAM doesn't clock well and bit slow :S

F5d @&%&^%@#@^#@ ing pain in the arse bios
the only setting i seem to be able to boot at is 400*12 LOL >> 350*10/11/12 for example no go....360/370/380/390 no go hahaha WTF

the board cannot seem to clock my quad to anything higher than around 415MHz FSB whereas i was easily stable at 450 on DDR2 board

went to F4a clocks CPU great, doesn't have FSB holes and issues as other bios but the RAM ratios always default to Auto.....cannot be changed so when you boot they obviously go ultra crappy slow strap and it's really slow in bios

    far out hahah

they need to do some more work on this DDR3 board bios
board feels more stable than DDR2 board but just funky bios issues argh

I think there should be 2 different threads, one for DDR3 and one for DDR2 since they use a different bios and pretty much 2 different boards.

    Hey guys,

I got this board as part of my new machine last weekend and I'm having a strange issue:

    Specs:
    Corsair HX620 PSU
    GA-X38-DQ6
    Q6600 G0 - TT V1 cooler
    G.Skill DDR2 800 2X2GB (5-5-5-15 SPD)
    BFG 8800GT OC
    2X WD SATA2 250GB
    LG SATA 20X DVD
Vista x64 / XP Pro dual boot

I'm just trying to get the system stable at stock speeds right now - not even trying to OC it yet.

    1. Under any BIOS other than F3, I can't get anything other than AUTO memory settings to run, which means 400Mhz with the 4:5 divider. I've been told 1:1 is optimal, but setting the divider to 2.00A causes the system to either not POST or error like crazy in Memtest. As soon as I go back to AUTO, it'll pass Memtest overnight and do hours of Prime95 just fine. With the F3 BIOS, the same is true, I can run it fine at 1:1 (266MHz) It feels sluggish though, like it's not quite as snappy as it should be.

I really don't understand why this would be the case that it's unstable at a LOWER memory speed than at the higher 400MHz one. I want to be able to run the latest BIOSes for the extra features etc...

Any idea what could be wrong here?

    Thanks!
    Ryan

    Hey Dino,
Now dont you see what I'm talking about with Ram Stability?
I have been telling you for weeks now.
I have been through 3 sets of 1800mhz + sticks, and they all cannot pass memtest at rated frequency. It is definitely a DQ6T board or bios issue.

Meh, I was finally able to switch out my 4 x 1GB modules to 2 x 2GB Patriots. Price was right, so why not? I'm on F6b right now, so we'll see what happens.

    Richard,

Have you seen any problems with the G.Skill RAM not running at anything other than 400MHz with the F6b? I can't get mine to run at any other divider with that BIOS - if I go back down to F3, it works at 1:1...

knock on wood, my board is awsome, passes memtest, occt and prime blend, and small fft's with my setup in my sig, love the board so far, much better than the maximus formula......but i might go with the 780i SLI board, so i can do sli.

I was tempted to do SLI on the X38 just to see what would happen ($400 for another GTX sounds good). Nvidia is pissed that it works, but they need to stop screwing Intel in the chipset market. I'd rather keep an Intel chipset board at this point.

Went back to my maximus OMG what a POS that thing is. I hate MB that run stable when they feel like running stable So im back with the DQ6 and im glad. Broke 21k 3dmark 2900xt Xfire moded bioses 850\950 and vista. Used easy tune to up clocks to 470fsb\4200mhz 3dmark does not show that. I remember reading a review that said the maximus out scored the dq6 in 3dmark. This is false at same clocks the dq6 scores around 50pts higherhttp://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=3877262

50 pts is a sneeze compared to a total score of 21k!...it comes within the margin of a statistical tie.
