There is a very large wind farm about an hour's drive from my home. It's located in the Altamont Pass and is one of the most famous wind farms in the world (see picture below). But those giant turbines are all owned by the utility companies. Wind power for the average homeowner is not very practical because you need a turbine with a very long rotor span to generate enough electricity to power a home. The bigger wind turbines are very expensive. Also, zoning laws probably forbid the installation of large turbines in densely-populated areas.
America is still, for the most part, an oil-loving nation.
