Idle and load temps at 9 x 400 "Green" Voltages

Just to get a fair baseline to compare the two BIOS (0401 and 0701) I Set the board to the highest voltages that are "green" in BIOS and ran Super Pi 1M, 3DMark06 and then for idle load comaprison used StressCPU32 all in XP Pro SP2 32 bit.

Here's what 0401 looks like. You can see PC Probe is totally off on the CPU temp...which I have come to expect.

37C idle 55C load on the CPU.

The NB is LCed and you can see the various temps in the shots.

Flashed to 0701 and reset the the BIOS to the exact same settings and it would not boot...

When the 0701 BIOS revises the RAM dividers and offers more settings the previous strap no longer works..

So instead of DDR2 1000 the RAM is now at DDR2 1066..which is not a bad thing.

Idle temps are actually about 2C lower in 0701...glad I took the time to check that.

    So no real difference there...

    Hmmm

The higher temps I experienced at 9 x 435 must be due to some other settings..not the revision.

interesting find on the 0701!! it must have been the same issue for me with the ram. my previous settings that were prime/occt stable would give me issues. maybe i'll give it another shot.

does reflashing your bios so many times cause issues? lol

I bet you never thought your ripping Crucial off did you? Your making RAM prices higher than they need to be.

If you overclock and go out of spec take responsability and take the loss, might I suggest you buy some RAM that's rated @ 2.3-2.4v then run it at those voltages if they go wrong you then have a valid claim.

Sorry but it makes me angry I pay a premium for RAM that's rated at a higher voltage to avoid what's happened to you.

I know loads of other people do it and they also anger me, but if your going to do it then go ahead and don't post what your doing on here, we really don't need to know that your obtaining replacement goods by deception.

Don't take it personal it applies to all that do it, I'm having a bad day one of my PC's is dead whilst running @ the recommended settings and it's 4 days out of warranty.
    LOL?

Sorry for the loss of your rig.

Understand that if I am paying good money for RAM, I expect it to perform. The RAM dying when only overvolted .1-.14 volts and being actively cooled is unacceptable. I will return these for a new set and I will not feel bad about it. Sorry if this fries your rear, but honestly, you most likely would do the same thing if you were tight on cash. So don't lecture me on the ethics of RMA and warranty return. I honestly don't care to hear it.

That being said, I will most likely either go with the Mushkins or the Dominators. Thank you to those who gave suggestions.

Nope. But the additional strap or divider or w/e is just something that could freak you out if you were not aware.

Still looking for the sweet spot...but with the temps I am getting i will have to settle for 3600 Folding.

Could be the block is not seated just right..I have a pair of 200mm fans doing the push pull on the PA160 so I know it's getting plenty.

On other PA160 CPU loops (Quad B3 nonetheless) I was getting better temps...and that was with a single 120mmm so something is still making the CPU hotter than I like...

I have recently built a number of LC quad loops so when I see temps this high it makes me wonder where I can improve...I should be nearly 10C lower

Anyone come across a usbehci.sys BSOD? been trying to figure out exactly what causes this as it is always usbehci.sys that crashes, and it usually happens when my machine is in the process of restarting (still in Windows) or when it first logs into Vista.
The reason for crash is DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Is this possibly related to the BIOS EHCI Hand-off feature? or a hardware conflict of some kind?

Do you have any USB drives attached? Try going into BIOS and change the setting for PnP OS.

Yeah, I have a Western Digital External 500 GB HD attached via USB.
PnP O/S is set to YES on the BIOS, should I just leave that on NO instead? maybe Vista is causing IRQ problems with the device somehow.
The drive also tends to initialize very slowly during POST causing DET IDE to sporadically hang on a cold boot too. It would probably be better if I just used it via FireWire lol

Good to know! cheers, if I get even more annoyed with the Maximus I will surely swap it in for a Gigabyte... but I really do want to see if this board matures.

Yep there is a sweet spot as you say Warboy. I used your settings but in XP64Bit and its happy at 435x9 with the voltages you gave in this post. I'm going to try and push a bit higher though and tighten the timings a little.

BTW if any of you want a stable operating system better than Vista64 and which I have some issues with i.e TimeBug xfi issues and Geforce 8800GTX holding on to thread then try XP64 its snappy more responsive and loads faster than XP32 and you can get Alchemy to work in games even though its not built for this operating system. actually it sounds better than XP clearer in all channels rear especially.
I had to adjust these settings slightly to account for individual overvolting and undervolting, but yeah, there seems to be a sweet spot! Well done that man!

I've been playing with vFSBT as well, and for me too much causes the same instabilities as too little. You have to get it JUST right, from what I'm experienced!

what would cuase intermittent short freezes? Whenever i run world of warcraft, the game would periodically freeze for like 2 seconds and then recover. Sometimes my computer makes the click noise like it was about to turn off, but its not turning off. Strange.

    Hi guys,

I`m new here in this forum (from forumdeluxx.de) and english isn`t my favorite language, but I`ll try my best
Have problems to run my 2x1GB Kingston HxperX 8500 above 1000Mhz and I`m thinking about buying a new kit.
Therefor I would like to know, if Corsair Domitaor 8500 or Transcend aXeRAM 9600U runs good or if there are some same problems? Does anybody have this board-ram-combination?
Thank you a lot for replies. Regards, eSp!s0.

yes, the ballistix series is rated at 2.2v... but when you set 2.2v in bios it overvolts in windows by more then .1. that was the point i was making.

Make sure PCIE is set at 100, make sure your graphics card isn't over heating, check the stability of your overclocks.
Sometimes a computer can freeze when a drive becomes unresponsive due to failure.

Ok, just curious. When people post voltages here, are they posting BIOS SET or ACTUAL voltages?

I'm so close to getting those "sweet spot" settings stable, and that'll help my Folding no end!!!
