as much as i don't like they guy, he's obviously an overpaid sack of crap, he's not really the only reason amd is in trouble... he's just one person, he has a board of directors, so they're all to blame for stupid moves like buying ati when their product was not competitive (and i mean from a profit margin standpoint, performance itself is not as important as we at xsystems would like to believe).
their development team dropped the ball big time with the k8 replacement (i go with the theory that k10 was a rush job after the true replacement got botched)
in the end though, like an article i read a while ago said, amd has to go through this tough period to survive, because ultimately, consumer pcs are moving to system-on-a-chip design, its just natural for the industry for things to always move towards a unified chip. amd's ultimate issue is their manufacturing though, because intel always has the advantage of making their processors cheaper than the amd counterpart.

how about cevat yerli for amd? he might optimize amd-ati for crysis! then amd will definitely do well! Really inspite of intel offering great value for money and inspite we all(most) having intel-nv stuff, we all want amd to rock. Please amd, hear my call! recover form like ur previous kingness in proccys! Please!

my post sounds lame but really someone like that would do wonders to amd!

Competition is good, I strongly hope Intel doesn't drive AMD out of our market.

i certainly hope the AMD boat doesn't sink....we'd see retarded prices from Intel if it did. At least Intel is trying to put them out of business so they're being very competitive. . . for now.

If Hector leaves these are good news, indeed. Just hope AMD don't get a worst CEO.

You guys are aware of how Hector's gig prior to AMD turned out don't you? He ruined Motorola, nearly bankrupted it(dejavu.) He ran semiconductors, which was spun off becoming freescale. He steered AMD into the ground as well. Where AMD is at today was deliberate. Hector decided cpu improvment was over, which is why AMD wasn't doing it. The fly in his let them eat cake vision for consumers was Intel, who kept at it and succeeded, and here we are. Hopefully AMD will survive Hector like Motorola did, though it wasn't without cost, moto lost their cpu business.

with hector its more like walking the plank. the company has failed miserably under his eye. He wasn't even responsible for the sucess of A64 and rather then investing the profits in R&D he ends up with a huge expensive lawsuit with intc

I don't know, but maybe he's finally drained enough money from AMD to buy his own secluded Island. And the Island he will dub Ha-Ha, meaning "I can't believed they paid me this much for so long" in the native tongue.

Hector is a worthless piece of and I'll be glad when he's gone.

He took all Jerry worked to build up and trashed it

I doubt he'll leave until the lawsuit with Intel is done. It's what all the CEOs of the world wants, leave a mark/legacy before he takes off into his multi-million mansion.

Ruiz, 61, said Dirk Meyer, the company's chief operating officer, is being groomed to succeed him.

``The plan is that Dirk is the CEO in training,'' he said. ``He's one day going to take my place.''

I don't think he will leave so soon, but if he does I bet he'll take several million$ with him for his well deserved early retirement. It wil be Hector's last blow to AMD

Jerry Sanders was the man behind K8, which was a huge leap in performance from anything there was available.

Hector hasn't done for AMD. He hasn't done anything to improve their market situation or financial situation. He could have been behind the ATi buyout, which was a good thing, but I highly doubt Hector has anything to do with the price cuts, given he always has to have that giant CEO bonus every year. If I was CEO of AMD, I would sacrifice my bonus AND even my salary for good of the company, and so would most of us here.
