RAID 0 with 3 disks? I think you need multiples of 2 disks for RAID 0. RAID 5 uses 3 disks (or multiples thereof). Also, the performance increase when going from 2 x RAID 0 to 4 x RAID 0 is minimal (I was considering the same myself until I saw the figures). Can't remember where I saw this comparison, but if I find it I'll post a link.
I also have a strange problem with hdd recognition. I've had to put one of my disks on the orange EZ_RAID1 port (my storage disk), but the model number of the disk is not recognised. It simply shows as 'External Disk 0'. Seems to work fine, so just an annoyance rather than a problem. I did try to install on the EZ_RAID2 port, but that didn't work. Saying that, I haven't tried removing the jumper.
hey Guys,
what the temp you have on your mb measured in sandra? I am getting about 50 Celsius, is that ok or is it too high?
cpu temp is about 28c.
thanks
...and one more thing: has any of you had problem during startup when all lights are on, but there is no post? computer just stops, all you can see is hd working and hear all fans. that's it. nothing else. it's worth mentioning that I haven't changed anything in bios. usually, I have to reset cmos and leave it unplugged from the power for about 10 to 15 mins. then it works fine pc is booting up.
is the motherboard faulty? I just bought it last Sunday and think that I should exchange it. also, which other mb from asus would you recommend? or maybe I should stick to p5w?
thank you
What cpu and heatsink do you have ? Is it overclocked (I guess not if you haven't changed any BIOS settings as you say in your next post) ? What's you're ambient temp ? Does the case have good ventilation ?
CPU temp of 28C idle is fine. 50C for motherboard is a bit high, but nothing to worry too much about. The sensor is positioned close to the northbridge (if my memory is correct), so any additional ventilation you can provide to that area should help to reduce the temps.

My mistake - must be losing it in my old age
I thought the benefits were much less. If those figures are accurate then I would agree it's worth it.
Let me know how it goes. I may consider giving it a try myself - I've got a spare raptor lying around that I need to find a use for.
I have used the fan which comes with processor so no "rocket science" here. the case have the whole front full of filters and solid fan at the back so the airflow is pretty good I would say. I have seen in sandra something really weird, as the prog showed me about 100C ambient temp. strange, isn't?
as I said, no tweaks were done in bios. didn't want to do it as I had the issue described in my second post.
what about my second question? did anyone experience any similar issue?
With the standard intel heatsink, you'll have air being blown onto the area around the NB. However, with only 1 fan exhausting air from the case and no intake fans, airflow through the case could be a problem and you could get a build up of heat inside the case. Are you able to add any additional fans to the case (intake on front, for example). Which case do you have?
To measure ambient, it's best to use an external thermometer (the ambient we want is the room temp). Any reading of 'ambient' from software will only measure from a sensor inside the case (which means it will be case temp). I wouldn't trust that reading from Sandra.
No ideas spring to mind regarding your 2nd post.
well, yeah, I think I will exchange mb then :/ I don't really want to reset cmos every morning:/ besides, that's a bit unacceptable for me to pay 100pounds for mb and experience such issue...
thank you for suggestions with the fan. I'll see what I can do

I've been out of the loop for a while (about 6 months), now I have some free time again and here I am looking at my good old PC![]()
A couple of questions:
1) I'm using the 2004 bios (original ASUS), should I bother to update it for any reason?
2) The CPU is a E4300 @ 3.6ghz, should I consider upgrading it to a Q6600/E6850 while still having this 975x mobo?
Help out a noob in need
TIA
well the quad seems to be the future thats for sure this board will run it be sure to get the go stepping and you will have to up date your bios for that to 2302 i think it is or lawys modded bios on the first page

I've heard the P35 chipset is a much better/stable chipset to OC the quads.

This motherboard is stable with quads as long as you want only a moderate overclock. My 3Ghz Q6600 is really stable and I'm very satisfied with stability and performance. No reason to upgrade motherboard or overclock higher for me really.
The only thing that bothers me with this motherboard now is how long will the other northbridge hook last and this time will it kill my 7900GTO...![]()

Any truth to the fact that the P5W DH does not OC well with 4 sticks of RAM and the the P35 chipset (i.e. P5K DLX) handles 4 sticks much better?

Yes I'm an idiot and the board is still bullet proof!![]()
The ICH7R IDE problem I had was really annoying me so I removed the motherboard and found the center pin on the IDE connector was pushed back very slightly. I didn't notice this when checking the pins as I had left the motherboard in my case and it looked fine. Pushed it back to normal position and I can use the ICH7R ide again. Although the Jmicron has been working fine for me the last few days.
That's the last time I try and check the IDE connector with the board still in the case.

P35 is better at clocking memory from the start than 975x. Both motherboards clock lower with 4GB than 2GB. That's all.
So obviously P35 is better with 4GB than 975x is with 4GB, old news.

My overclocking wasn't affected by the RAM, I had my E6600 OC'd from 2.6 GHz to 3.1 GHz, only the RAM speed was an issue. I had 4x1 GB sticks in this board and was only able to run the at PC2-6400 speeds. I picked up an Asus Maximus Formula and can run the same RAM at PC2-8500 speeds.
I would say that other boards can definitely handle the 4x1 GB RAM configuration better.
