Apparently the fsb holes are caused by the GTL voltage???!!! the link below has a fix, bit tricky though! Has anyone managed to run 400fsb on a new striker??

I currently have a MSI P6N Platinum with a 650i chipset.
With this board, there are also FSB holes
Luckily I found the "sweetspot" @ FSB 1400, making my Q6600 B3 run at 3.15Ghz
Read my findings here:

ANYWAY, I bought a Asus Striker Extreme!
I will receive this board next week.
It will replace my P6N (going into another PC).
I hope I will get a higher overclock of my Q6600 B3 with the Striker Extreme (hoping to run @ 3.6Ghz).
I'm going to use Liquid Cooling.
My Question is:
Does the Striker Extreme NB, SB and Mosfets really needs liquid cooling? Or is the stock cooling enough?
Thnq guys in advance.
NB requires at least active cooling if possible, if you go liquid cool only the NB and SB, I can recommend the EK waterblocks they are fab and work very very well, if you want to do it mad you can go to cool the mosfets too but that would require an extra loop if you include CPU and GPU too in it...
With the Striker 412 , 417, 425 are known to work the first two with 9 multi, the latter I only tried with 8 multi ( giving 3.4ghz ) some have reached 450FSB but my board never got there...( needed more CPU VTT to get stable then the 1.55 the board gave)
A user on a German ( hardwareluxx.de) forumsite got 412( x9 ) with all voltages on auto (bios 1303 plz do not use 1305) just CPU and ram set manually... if you overclock the quad keep the ram in sync, meaning if you go 425 FSB set ram at 850, so not try to force eg 1066 as it will make the OC unstable...
I mainly used Linflas magical settings which worked pretty well (I just set 1.2HT slightly lower and SB at 1.55 as I don't use SLI ) and the board runs stable at 3.4ghz with my GO Q6600... at the moment it's in the box as I repleaced it by the Maximus formula for testing....
Here's my board fixed with the EK set :

@ Leeghoofd.
Thnx for the info!
Anyway:
I thought it would be better to start my own topic, to prevent off-topic posts.

hehe looks like my striker board before it died, I went with the clear top EK option though.
Waiting on a new CPU block before I take another nforce plunge

i was all pumped for the Striker at the start of the thread, after all the problems thinking maybe this board could turn out the best.
now @ the back end of the thread it looks plagued by the same problems from the beginning and still dying left right and centre.

Well, I had the same issue too, wondering about that.
But I still "believe" in the Striker
I work at a computershop and they've selled a LOT of Strikers.
And very little came back for RMA.
The people here reporting that their Striker died, are just a small amount of the total Striker users who's Striker are just working fine.
I'd imagine most return them directly to ASUS, which is a mixed bag since their tech support sucks and RMA can be hit or miss.
Due to the fact that I dropped 160 USD into water blocks for this board I'd debate getting another one, and cross my fingers that it's the newer version.
Searching for RAM that isn't going to make the CPU INIT issue worse while I'm at it.

I'm searching for RAM too!
I think I'm going for the Crucial Ballistix, but I'm not out yet which I should choose:
2 x Crucial DDR2 BallistiX PC6400 1024MB CL4 BL12864AA804
or
2 x Crucial DDR2 BallistiX PC8500 1024MB CL5 BL12864AA1065
Which of the 2 will give me better performance / overclock?
Because the 1st is 800Mhz, but 4-4-4-12
The second is 1000Mhz, but 5-5-5-15
Anyone any idea which one is better?
i4Memory is a great place to look for additional information regarding the Ballistix memory. Eva has a LOT of info regarding Crucial memory on his site. As a backup pair I have the Ballistix Tracers PC8500 and I like em'.

The PC8500 versions do 800mhz too at 4-4-4-12 mate , but some PC6400 can do 1066Mhz at 5-5-5-15 (I know many OC their ram but many fail also over time...) I would go with the PC8500 version as it gives you slightly more room to run the FSB in sync with the ram without doing really any OC ( so not taking any risk) on the ram...
I can confirm that timings have almost no effect on real world performance, I selled out some serious cash for the Gskill PC8000 with 4-4-4-5 timings, benchmarks and co run barely faster than the previous much cheaper OCZ 5-5-5-15 kit...

That might be true for the Ballistix but I know many PC6400 dimms that don't do 1000 or 1066Mhz not even with cl 6 timings...and voltages over 2.3 volts. I think the 1066mhz modules are slightly better binned ones...
But low latency timings are pretty useless on Intel CPU's, ofcourse every mhz/latency helps but sometimes not worth the cash...
I stick that he best gets the PC8500 dimms if he wants to make sure they will run at 1066mhz 24/7...

Yeah OCZ Titanium Alpha VX2.. average 4-4-4-x on 975/965/P35 at 565-586mhz 4-4-4-x CAS5 no help but on 680i striker excels!

hi again ,
I've tried those settings and it simply doesn't want to post. " DET IDE" wrtting on the back lcd :/ Don't know what happens on my striker ...
You mean just put higher FSB and don't touch Volts ?
Do you ussually have those holes on Striker?
THX for ya help![]()
You may have to adjust your cpu voltage as this is a higher clock, or you can just test for FSB holes with x6 multi at lower volts, when you find one that boots OK, then go ahead and change your multi and your vcore and see what you can get stable.
I posted a number of bios settings in this thread that are stable.
Q6600 @ 3.6, cheap water cooling, and crunching 24/7
I've tried 1712 and 1720 and still DET IDE i'm gonna become crazy with tihs boards ...
This max i can get is 1400*9 and whatever multi, still 1400![]()
Are you sure that i'll can " go out" this FSB hole ? That's not sure ?
are you using the 1301 bios? Do not use 1305 it does not work with quad core, use 1301
