Looks like people are pretty excited about this. I think this is at least the 4th post I've seen with the same listing. I would have liked to see a little higher than 2.4G, but at least one of these has gone 3G on air.
Hopefully in December AMD will release a little higher clock rate.
Yeah, and I'm sure AMD's FX series will debut at $999, too...that's traditionally how they've done it.
I also have a feeling Intel's top of the line QX9750s or whatever will fall from their lofty $1400 mark after a while. It'd help if AMD's best offering competed, though.
Especially if you go with the 9700 model that has a 14x multiplier. With some boards that can do 500+ fsb, even a 10x multiplier is enough for most.

At 2.4G the 9700 should have a 12 mult, but either way that should be good enough. I would expect the FX to debuy at a higher clock then the standard Phenom.

200x12 9600 2.4

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread....1629&t=1231540In Q1 2008 the Phenom FX-82 will be the first Phenom FX chip to make its debut. The chip will feature a clock speed equal to or greater than 2.6GHz . Like all of the other Phenom models, it will also come with 512KB of L2 cache for each of its four cores and a shared 2MB L3 cache.
The FX-82 will have an unlocked multiplier and will support dual socket configuration.
Phenom 9700 will have a locked multiplier and will only support single socket configurations.

Killer Value
Fast computers breed slow, lazy programmers
The price of reliability is the pursuit of the utmost simplicity. It is a price which the very rich find most hard to pay.

Modern Ram, makes an old overclocker miss BH-5 and the fun it was
half of these benches and screens coming in are from sites all over the globe... I cant wait to see some hard facts and some OCing attempts....
If these still work in AM2 as they promised ill try my hand at overclocking a bit if they ever do come out this month...

And here is it's competitor in that price range:
Lowest priced Yorkfield, Q9300 to sell for $270
Q9300, 2.50GHz with 6MB of memory
http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?op...=4025&Itemid=1
Last Friday we mentioned that the lowest priced Core 2 Quad Q9450, 12MB quad core processor will sell for $319. Core 2 Quad Q9450 works at 4x2.66 and Intel plans to sell its Core 2 Quad Q9300 clocked at 2.50GHz with memory cut down to 6MB for $270.
This is the CPU that should replace Q6600 with its 2.40GHz clock and 8MB cache memory, with FSB 1066MHz that is currently priced at about $270. Core 2 Quad Q9300 is a 45nanometre CPU and will have the memory size cut down from 12MB to 6MB but this should not affect most of the task CPU does.
The Core 2 Quad Q9300 processor also comes with faster FSB 1333MHz and we believe that it should end up significantly faster than the current sweet spot Q6600.
Intel will launch Q9300 and Q9450 in January.
no figures for that FX on the price matter ?
~250$ is good value for Phenom 9500 if you bear in mind how good it performs against c2q..

HOW MUCH ARE Phenoms going to cost when they debut in two weeks? Well, we told you about the model numbering, 9500, 9600 and 9700 at 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4GHz respectively, and now on to the price.
Moles at our German research division have pointed us to IT4Profit.com, specifically this page, which lists Phenom X4s at $247, $278 and $288 respectively. Add in a little etail markup, and you have something that more or less sits on top of their Intel equivalents. Not good for margins, but better than what they are getting on a mid range X2.
Given those projected prices, expect the actual price to be $277, $308, and $318 around launch date. (+$30 markup for launch items)
well that looks reasonable to me..nice prices

The point of that being?
You want performance, not how far you can overclock them, or rather, break them.
Somebody rename this site Xtremewastage.
So much hardware goes too hell here due too people trying to get there e-peen up.
Performance > Overclocking.
Always will be.
