    I believe the white padding around the thermal material on the NB is to protect the core from being crushed. Removing it shouldn't hurt as long as you don't overdo it when tightening the heatsink down.

    I think it's more to keep the hs from rocking on the small NB chip to ensure even contact. Leave it on.

    Has anybody else had one of the network adapters die on them?. Out of nowhere last night, one of mine just quit. Windows says it is working correctly but cannot see a network. My router show no connection. Hooked the cable to the second adapter and it did work. But the first one is dead.
