    Phenom, debuting at 2.4GHz

    http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquir...m-slowed-again

    We were expecting Phenom models 9500, 9600 and 9700 at 2.2, 2.4 and 2.6GHz.

On a more recent set of slides for the Spider launch dated "October/November 2007", we are told the chips coming out on the 19th are indeed 9500, 9600 and 9700, but they have been castrated to mean a mere 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4GHz.

Where is the INQ warning in the title?

I don't believe most stuff from the INQ for a reason. And for Phenom, there is enough stuff flying around I'm not going to be sure until I see the CPU with a speed on it.

It is the INQ, not all that trustworthy. If it gets verified by other reputable sources (FUD doesn't count ) then that's fine.

The funny thing is that INQ is often right.

the INQ news are the same material repeated over and over, but each time
with a different content, so one of the variants is always true in the end,
giving the INQ staff the occasion to proudly say 'we told you'...

maybe a new 'XS Speculation' section is needed afterall...

LOL, yes that's definitely needed. Too much speculation going on in "news" section these days which to some might be OK and others could find it disturbing. Personally I don't have a problem with it as I keep doing it all the time b4 a product is launched myself and see how accurate I was when it's released just for fun.

2.4Ghz topbin at 125W wouldnt be surprising when looking at Barcelona chips.

AMD just keeps on dissapointing in all segments.

Drop SOI, go Bulk. Fire Hector and stop the hybris, so Intel and nVidia dont do the nemesis.

Well yeah. I have no idea why they want so much to keep this SOI thingie.
And worst part is that they intend to use SOI in their 45 nm chips too.
    Thats not good.
    Go bulk AMD, go bulk!
Maybe lets make some petition? :P

Yea I would be interested in hearing of Hector himself why they are so keen on SOI, I've been wanting them to drop that for quite a while now.

2.4ghz is 89Watt TDP. TDP is not acp, don't cry before AMD say the ACP.

2.4ghz is the start. in december amd will release :

    - one 2.5ghz FX
    or
    - one GP 9800 2.5ghz and one 2.6ghz FX. <- it seems this.

2.8ghz and 3.0ghz FX are shelduled for the start of the year ( 2008 )

ACP for the 3ghz is less than 89Watts.

First Phenom X4s to be slower than expected?

    That techreport note simplifies things.

The phenoms don't debute slower that expected but with a higer TDP for the 2.4 GHz version and with a different numbering scheme.

With that new numbering the 9xxx's won't go beyond 2.6 GHz.

    i think it's stupid too

maybe they will use Xxxx after that.

HT3.0 is ready to clock up to 2.6ghz. HT3.0 is clocked at 3/4 of the cpu frequency.

The CPU can be clocked up to 3.46 without new dividor for HT3.0.

Don't forget Phenom is already spoted at 3.33ghz

It would also imply that the FX 9xxx versions can not go beyond 2.6 GHz.
They might change the numbering to avoid confusion in comparison to intel's numbering. A 9650 whould be a 9600 with better FSB in intel terms.
But i don't think they change the numbering in a way that whould require a new one after 2.6 GHz, so i don't believe that news.

The Phenom 9700 will supposedly run at 2.4GHz instead of 2.6GHz, while the Phenom 9600 will be clocked at 2.3GHz instead of 2.4GHz. Worse yet, The Inq reports that the slower 9600 and 9700 Phenoms will have the same respective 89W and 125W power envelopes as expected.

Slower than expected, AND higher TDP than expected.
