    8800GT Overclocking Thread (Official?)

If not the right forum, mods feel free to shift

Received my standard clocked (600/900/1500) Leadtek 8800GT today - first off the shelf so def reference board - esp since Leadtek I think.

So far 720 core w/ 1800 shader - still standard memory clocks (900) but will continue tweaking after sleep... using Expertool for overclocking and ATI Tool for stability testing, GPU-z for validation.

Stock cooling - just turned up the whiney bastard to 76% to keep it below 70c. Can't wait until I get my VF900 on it...

Feel free to join in - 20mins ATI Tool, GPU-Z validation, screenie

    My results thus far:

    Evga 8800gt superclocked (default = 650/1625/950 )

I've got a 2.8ghz opteron with 2gb ram, vista 32bit, 169.04 drivers, rivatuner 2.06 beta for overclocking and monitoring.

42 degrees idle ( fan at 80% ) 55 degrees load, stock heatsink, 23 degree room temp. My case does have 6 80mm fans, 2 on the side blowing onto the card.

    So far:

    gpu max = 758
    shader max = 1880
    mem max = 1040

is it safe to say that a stock GT will oc to 700/1000/1800? I'm still waiting to see what AMD has coming out in Nov/Dec and if nVidia answers back, but if I do decide to get one of these, i'd prefer to pay $250 vs $300 if they all oc the same.

    NO!!! Don't tempt me m8!

Now that I'm out of school my hobby of fiddling with hardware is expensive. I'd absolutely love to get a new yorkfield and oc that puppy to 4.5ghz. But I must hold out and save the money for a down payment on a infiniti g37!!

hahahah I hear ya. I want a new 335i Coupe, but i dont think 600 or so in upgrades will kill you, also consider the old parts your going to sell once youv upgraded.

Yeah I am thinking the same thing - these overclocks are doing nothing for 3Dmark at all - so heavily cpu bottlenecked with my Opty 165 @ 2.6 I think. Going to be doing more tweaking and testing with more real world benchmarks tonight - hopefully get some more action out of my core if I do a bios edit up to 1.1v core

Oh, and I better start tinkering with my Memory too

Yeah, but who wants a opteron 170 socket 939 board and 2gb of ram. I mean they were great before the core architecture hit the streets but not now. I guess I could get 300 on ebay. I'll mull it over

Also, everyone needs to post their gpu temps idle/load. All the reviews made me believe this card was gonna run 85cel load and 55 idle. Well mine runs 42/58, my damn x1900xt with an aftermarket v1 ultra heatsink ran at 42/70

    My max stable:

    Gainward 680/1700/950
    Sparkle 660/1630/1000

Guys how you measure stability of your OC ? Everyone get higher scores then me.
It's either you're not testing it for artefacts with ATITOOL or I'm very unlucky.

Loop 3d mark 2006 and check for artifacts.

Mine is fine at thos speeds when gaming with out issue.

@ 740mhz though the card hangs in 06

I'm quite sure that 3D Mark06 isn't stressing the card as much as ATITOOL.

    I've got a similar CPU... What's your 3Dmark06?

I've got 10100 ish on 3dmark 06. My cpu score on 06 is 2000. Seeing as people with quad cores get 6000, and score 14k in 3dmark06, I'd say if I upgraded to a quad core I'd be in that area, 14-15k.

I think I got fairly lucky with my 8800gt, its a good card. I've noticed that with the shader clock, it goes up in increments of like..60mhz. For instance, the hardware monitor on rivatuner says 1836mhz for the shader, meanwhile I keep upping the shader, 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870 and the shader stays at 1836 on the monitor. When I get to 1880, the shader jumps from 1836 to 1890. I tried atitool stability at that speed but its a no go, I get artifacts. I'm sure with some voltage I'd easily get 775/1890/1050 stable.

Currently my most stable atitool has been 740/1836/1025 @ 1hour of atitool. I'm sure it would go longer, imo 1hr is good enough for the time being.

Leave other ppl stating higher oc's and keep setting your clocks according to ATITool. This is the best way to scan for artifacts...
