    Exclamation NVIDIA 780i & 790i reference mobos (56K warn!)

    We all know that 780i is patched up solution for PEG 2.0 and Triple SLI, but 790i is "native" PEG gen2 solution

    Reference 780i mobo with gigantic NB cooling solution:

    And "native" 790i:

    Adobe is working on Flash Player support for 64-bit platforms as part of our ongoing commitment to the cross-platform compatibility of Flash Player. We expect to provide native support for 64-bit platforms in an upcoming release of Flash Player following the release of Flash Player 10.1.

    First reaction after seeing 780i's NB heatsink.
    "WTF? Grill? Or integrated BBQ in mobo?"
    I wonder how good or bad is 790i.

    Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

    From what I've read about the 790i, Its a DDR3 Only chipset due out sometime next year.

    Now the new Chipset cooler on the 780i looks like a can make cheeseburgers with it.

    hey is it just me or does the chipset cooling on the 780 board kind of remind you of the master chief

    For a reference mobo, the components (tall caps leaning to the sides, chokes
    not straigh, etc) look like they were thrown there in 5 mins by a 10-year-old.
    Not liking the DDR3-only, either; and the NB is close to the cpu socket.

    I still prefer active cooling then some crappy heatsink that doesn't deliver the goods... I really wander what they are gonna put up on the 790i Nb as it's indeed so close to the CPU socket

    This a similar discussion to "Why does modern games waste so much resources?" Nvidia has a transistorbudget to pay the resource-spec with. But they do not have time to create efficient solutions, so they end up tearing through the budget/envelope to deliver in time.

    Just look at Intel, they have enough resources to create good chipsets when it comes down to feature per Watt.

    As a software engineer with some self-respect I force myself to use my resources as efficiently as possible, to be proud of what I build.
    Sad to say, not many of us have that luxury.
    That's just craptastic...

    Lets not leave out the important details:

    780i = 1333 FSB + DDR2-1066 + TRI SLI
    790i = 1600 FSB + DDR3-1600 + TRI SLI

    boy, and I was planning to good in univ this winter semester ... so many distractions

    Thanks NVIDIA, you just made me assure myself I will never buy an NVIDIA chipset Intel mobo!

    What really make it bad is the dust in the heatsink. This means that a fan was used on it and the fan is in the pic too. It need a fan on that monster to keep it from overheating. This is really, really sad.
