an HB should do it, anything up to 6B really but 2B is my preference. Just grab any pencil or mechanical pencil and shade a few strokes lightly. Power on & check vcore in bios HW mon.

I did the simple pencil mod found on #300 post, now i get a very small vdroop of 0.008V, sometimes not at all. I did the mod with simple 2B pencil, at first I tried with HB 'couse at the moment I didn't have 2B, but it worked only partially, vdroop changed from 0.06V to 0.05V. Then I got fantastic results with the 2B.

My Asus P5B is 1.04G, if I properly understood, this pencil mod is perfectly fine for that revision?

Finnaly, I applied some isolation tape on the modded resistor, just to make sure that everything I draw with pencil stays on resistor. Is that OK?

What bios are you guys using?
I cant get passed 480 no matter what I do.

E6300 with 1.55v and crusial pc6400
@2.45 vdimm , stuck at 480fsb max. 2.1min vdimm.
I got all the other mods. 1.45 Vfsb; 1.55 Mch and vdroop.

I can play but at times the pc reboots after returning to desktop.
Its still the default cooler but on a desk in a cold room.

Default cooler is not advisable at those FSB's. You are killing the poor CPU.
What temperatures do you have?

Try using 2,35V Vdimmm, 1,6-1,7V Vfsb, 1,55V Vmch. Also less Vcore after you have a stable PC.

If you need more then 3,2GHz from the CPU, you really need to buy a new one.

Using multiper 6 I got 7/6*480 or 560 fsb.
Wasnt stable.
I use 1.35Vcore now.
Lowest I can get without a different pot.

Even at cas 4.
Ile add better cooler in the future for now Ile put a fan next to it.

What is max Fsb and Mch?
Northbridge doesnt even feel warm @1.6v

480fsb is a lot. Unlikely to squeeze out much more. Like CPU, not all chipset can hit high clocks (ie if you need >500 need new mobo)

Also, 1.55V is a LOT for stock cooler (re crazy high). Likewise with 2.45 vdimm, you're really pushing it. I hope you at least have a couple fans blowing at it.

Your games and programs are crashing because you're overheating. Not all programs stress CPU equally. You might be easily passing SuperPI with moderate temps, but SM or Intel TAT will put a lot more stress.
I highly recommend you pickup something like a Thermalright X-120 ultra extreme if you plan on keeping on running at 3.3Ghz... although cheaper better idea is to scale down to around 1.4V 3.0Ghz.

My P5B Vanilla boots reliably at 500fsb with everything but vcore set on auto.... only thing keeping these from being good boards is there is no way to use SetFSB or Clockgen, we are just limited by what it will boot at..... too bad

I've had an ASUS P5B-E, the layout was almost the same as Vanilla ones.

After messing up the MOSFET dealing with the NB, I've had to improvise and to use a voltage of 1,9V for Vmch (measured with the multimeter). I've used this voltage for a month or so. The heating was a bit high, but this board was running hot from day one.

Above 1,55-1,6V I haven't sen any improvement though.

***Deimos*** Is right: you overheat the components. For cooling the CPU and a little the NB/RAM you can use this also

There was a res missing when I bought it and I just shunted the other with 50k.
It fell off and took the remining resistor away.

Anyone know what that does for vcore?
My chip squealed.

Fixed vdroop but still squeals.
Guess it got high voltage. Mobo and chip broken.

Can a mobo survive that?
Could it have been caps on my mobo that can be replaced? Preventing actual damage to my cpu?

Anybody here have connections with folks who make softfsb... it would be really really beneficial to be able to set fsb in Windows. What's needed? Spec doc for PLL used by vanilla? Common, this popular mobo has been out for a year and nobody add this feature yet?

BTW:
I know AUTO for CPU voltage, causes it to scale with the clockspeed. Ie it will raise from default 1.35 to 1.4xx to 1.5xx as you increase clockspeed.
AUTO for the SB, MCH, VFSB etc does the same? Do you guys find it better to leave these settings to AUTO or to manually set to lowest voltage, and then manually test which one is limiting stability?

Well, I have tried the pencil mod with a 6B and it worked, I could go further than 2,3V. The Problem is, that the board wont start when the Vdimm is higher then 2,1 V, or it freezes in the bios or while loading winVista.
I have 4 GB DDR2 800 MHz, I think thats the Problem, but I wont use only 2 GB, since I bought 4.
When I start with 410 FSB with 2,05 V (My Board has 2,05 V when I set 2,1V), the pc starts, but freezes while loading windows, it needs more Volt.
So, i pencil moded the resistor and I measured 2,1 V, I started and the PC freezes while Loading, without BSs (before the pencil mod I saw BSs).
And when I set Volt to 2,2 and higher, the pc wont start at all...
With 2 GB I could go higher then 450 FSB and the PC still started, with 4 GB I have weird errors.
I hope you can help me.

Just did the Vdimm mod on my vanilla, put good ol vintage VR resistor, those with full metal cassings (no not the big ones) all the new kind with the plastic casing just dont work right....first off none of them gave me 10K and very unpredictible when adjusting.

I'm a little confused regarding the CPU mods though.

Vcore mod is like the Vdimm mod? What value of resistance do I put to get a 1:1 with what I see in BIOS..I see you guys say use VR, anyone have a specific value?

Back to my question, DDR2 1066 in P5B does it mean that it will be used by MB @ 800? I don't want to over clock it just want increase my system RAM with possibilities of using it in next MB upgrade.

I'm not 100% sure if this applies to the 200 strap but p965 should have dividers at the stock 200 and 266fsb for 266, 333, and 400. So the highest divider if it exists would be under the 200 strap for 400 only (1:2).

I can't recall if the p965 has a lower strap than 200, and I never used a 200bsel cpu so I probably wouldn't have seen the dividers from lower straps if they did exist. That said, if you're strictly not overclocking, you wouldn't want to be running in a lower strap, so...

In short, you're limited to a max of 800. That being said, if you're saying your next motherboard will use ddr2, I see no reason not to get "faster" ram if it's at a good price. It'll run in your system today.

BTW friend of mine had P4D running on 975. Meh.. He got it cause P4D was super cheap when C2D came out
Upgrade to C2D E6750 (G0 ofcourse). 3.48Ghz.. with slight voltage increase using Acrtic Freezer Pro... not bad not bad. Got a Ultra-120, but no help.

Then came along Mr Maximus Formala... well, they hit it off and it has been love ever since... 4Ghz! (on air, with E6750 G0.. not 45nm.. and only ~1.5V SuperPi stable!)

If you are using default 266 fsb. The minimum memory speed is DDR2-533. This is known as 1:1. All other multipliers depend on BIOS support and vary from motherboard model to model. But, higher memory clock is pointless with Core 2 Duo, due to huge cache. Going from DDR2-667 to DDR2-800 Quake4 frame rate increased from 104fps to 105fps.. thats ALMOST 1%. DDR2-1066 might give you another 1-2% but higher memory timings will make improvement lower. Sorry buddy to break it down to you but running memory at high clockspeed is a marketing sham!

However, since minimum multiplier is 1:1, if you want to run fsb 500Mhz, you must have DDR2-1000 memory... this is REALLY why experienced overclockers buy exotic RAMs.
