Just got through ... I'm afraid I'll have too put a 8800GTS on my christmas I'll-buy-myself-presents list. Anything more than 1280x1024 on medium quality w/o AA is too much for my 7900GT. And while it looks good, I know it could be better!

And WOW it looks good ... I shudder to think what it'll look like on high quality and with DX10.

Well, my rig is in the sig, and i can say that now im sure i'll be able to play it, at least It runs definitely much smoother than betas, and the average framerate now is better - 30-40 fps, sometimes more, sometimes less. I took some screenies, but the graphics are - ghm, well, actually in Far Cry i can get a better look at higher framerate If you're interested, http://forums.overclockers.ru/viewto...372745#4372745 - here are those screenshots.
So much for the gfx, the gameplay is pretty interesting. AI is pretty smart - searching for covers, trying to flank me, using grenades. The shooting mechanics in overall are very good, and the cinematic intros are just great - those few i saw here are worth of being shown on cinema Physics are something really exciting - at last we've got a FPS in which you can grab any object in the world around - just like in HL2 (although right now it seems to be a very little practical use of that, but it's good nontheless as it is). And something really cool begins when you get into the jeep and run over a building\cut the trees of with machinegun' fire
Well and while i've been writing this, i'd uploaded the video with first minutes of gameplay recorded. Check this -
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SR4_FlLgoL4
This is how the game starts, you've been warned about spoilers The graphics are bad, but my rig seem not to be possible to run Crysis better whith a playable framerate than this, 1280*1024\noAA\everything on middle, but shaders and shadows on low, while sound/water/physics/textures on high. Also sound is scruffy sometimes and i've no explanation for the lag caused by clouds 'till 01:40 - framerate then jumps from 6-8 to ~30fps with the clouds disapearing from screen. <...>

Game ran fine on my OC'd Celeron 326 @3.8 GHz with a stock speed X800 GTO.

LOL...I was suprised. Although I would just love to have something like a Q6600 and 8800 GT just so I could turn up the "eye candy".

Honestly the gameplay dissapoints though.....to me it just seems almost exactly like "Far Cry", but with better graphics.

I call bullsh|t phosphate. What resolution are you playing at? and what were your frames per second?
A lot of people with computers similar to and better than mine are complaining of low frames per second and having to turn settings down

I ran whatever the "auto detect" defaults were for my set-up.

I am guessing I was "auto-set" at 800x600 just like I was when I played Call of Duty 4 demo with the same computer.

Of course my monitor will support 1680 x 1050, but no way would I expect to run this with high detail and AA on.

finished downloading the demo...took 48 minutes to complete the download...

    my early impressions:

damn this is gonna be a system killer for a lot of people...I first started playing at 1600 x 1200 with all Graphical settings on 'High' + 4x AA...low frame rates and not very playable...lowered settings down to 1360 x 1024 with everything on 'High' and 4X AA and the game is a lot smoother and playable but not ideal...hopefully Crytek will continue to optimize the code for this game as this is the first game my system has struggled with

    as for the game itself...

nothing spectacular so far but the game does look very nice...I think making the player start off in the middle of the night diminishes the 'Wow' factor a bit as things looked a bit grainy...the nanosuit also requires a bit of a learning curve as their are a bunch of different settings the player needs to get used to (the default mapping also sucks---they made the 'Mouse Wheel' button the key that activates the nanosuit, but it is very difficult to maneuver through the settings with that key binding)

a bit too many early lengthy cutscenes which takes away from the learning curve

the game seems like it would look spectacular with DX10...the lighting, facial animations, vegetation etc look very good and I could only imagine what they look like in DX10...this game makes me want to buy a new system

I will be frank, and say that this demo is going to either put or scrape Crysis off my to-buy list for November.. I'm very much hoping for the former, as I've enjoyed the MP beta a whole lot... But I need good single-player to go along, otherwise it's a no-go...

Playing at 1280X1024 in vista dx10 with hardware in sig with all settings on very high brings my system to its knees. Averaging 20-30fps with 15 in heavy fights. WOW thought my system would do better than this. Kinda disappointed. Graphics are sweet but not that sweet. The sunlight glistening through the trees is pretty impressive. Game play is well thought out. Enemy's have pretty good AI, circling around you and calling for help. Physics are really cool, shooting down trees, driving through sheds and so on. All in all I'll prolly buy it.

Finished the demo, I'm buying the damn game on release-date... It was awesome...
Played through the entire thing at 1680x1050, all high, DX9, 16xAA (roughly 4x performance) supersampling, 16xAF, both forced through drivers, although I'm not sure the AA was actually activated... It didn't run absolutely perfect, but worst I saw was 15-18fps... So with a bit of tweaking, It'll run perfect...
And, oh, before I forget... The game's gourgeous
I died a few times through, I'm sorry to say, but checkpoints are pretty abundant, so no biggie... Excellent character-models, facial-expressions are impressive to say the least, and the story really gives you a sense of "what the hell happens next"...

I might sound like a little squealing fanboy right now, but trust me, it's fantastic...

Now, for the nerdy stuff only a weapon-geek of intense magnitude, would notice...
The reflex-sight in the game, actually isn't a reflex-sight... It's a so-called "Holographic sight", produced by EoTech, which doesn't reflect anything onto anything... It projects the image of a reticle (IIRC) 100feet infront of you, giving a very clear aiming point.. Also, the reticle is crystal-clear, not like the washed-out, grainy one in the game... Also, the reticle isn't a dot in the real sight, it's more like the one in the multi-player beta (which, apart fron also being grainy, is spot on).... If you would like to see what a real EoTech holo-sight reticle looks like, go play GRAW 1-2 and CoD4... They all got it right... Also, another thing...
The idea behind reflex/holographic sights is that they allow you to have both eyes open while aiming, so you don't lose your periphial (SP?) vision, and lose the "big picture"... You simply raise your weapon, look down the sights, and your brain automatically transfers "supiriority" to the eye looking through the sight, but since there's no magnification, you can still have the other eye open, losing no field of view...
No single game I've seen to date has been able to duplicate this, probably because a screen can only represent one "eye"... Technically, whenever you play an FPS, you play with one eye closed

Please name one game which has more (photo) realistic graphics... Not better graphics, more realistic... Cause that definitely ain't the same thing ...
Yes, better realism contributes to better graphics, but there's more to great graphics than high res textures and brown colors... This game has one of the most vivid color-palettes I've ever seen in an FPS, especially of late...

Saying that a 12 month old GFX should be able to handle a completely new game with everything on "you-won't-believe-it" high, is kind of a moot point... Come on, we knew this game was going to pull out teeth, Far Cry did the same thing back in the day... Problem is, resolution's gotten larger since then, so now people expect to be able to use high settings and higher resolutions, without their hardware breaking a sweat...

I'm happy my 8800GTX can handle the game without having to sacrifice too much image-quality, but I weren't expecting miracles ...

I'd like to see more comments on Core 2 Duo / X19xx series setups. I am sure it will run fine on my 8800 but I'm a bit worried about the other rig.

To maintain a playable framerate (over 30) I have to run Medium settings @ my native res of 1900x1200.

I guess unless you are playing on high settings at 8x AA on 2560x 1600 resolution nothing else counts.

Believe it or not I believe this game is playable by even older/lower spec computers unless your "acceptable and tolerable" graphics standards are very high end. Yes I know this is Xtreme systems, but trust me the game is playable if you don't need high resolution. Of course I would still prefer a 8800 Video card for this one.

Gotta admit, I don't see the fuss... Yes, if you call anything below 60FPS constant "terrible" performance, then yes, this game doesn't deliver at higher settings... But if you can live with 30-40fps as an average, then with a little tweaking, you're good to go... I don't see why people with 8800-series cards are making a fuss.. The tech's a year old, we all knew this was coming, and so far it's still only a demo (close to release, but still)... And if you don't feel your hardware's doing the job you want it to do, go buy something newer (which you can't currently )....
    /rant

Played through it twice now, and this is the first game I've played, which advertised combat adaptable AI and random enemy placement, which actually delivers...
Also, I wish they'd given you the ACOG-sight from the get-go... I'm getting tired of sniping with a goddamn red-dot sight...

First, Thanks moonsond for the great server post. Dl'd under an hour last night.
I tried to set everthing max at 19x12 res + 16xQ and to my surprise the game ran smoother than I expect although I know for most of you 15-25FPS average is not acceptable.
At these settings the game looked just like the videos I have been seeing so I can say no matter how I think about EA, I have to accept the fact that Crytek delivered what's been promised in terms of graphics.

By disabling AA completely I earned between 5 to 10 extra FPS and I'm sure I can tweak te performance even further. Besides, I don't even use the latest drivers.

The level was almost identical to FarCry demo in terms of environment but I still enjoyed it. I think the gameplay is awesome since it gives you an open ended environment and lets you progress as your liking. You can sneak or go berserk. Overall it was a great experience and I would definitely but this game if I had money.
