If you have an E6750, the default multiplier is 8, correct? That means in order for you to run 4GHz you need an FSB of 500 x 8. Admittingly, I haven't seen everything, but I've been told these boards top out around 480 with a v-mod. That means 3.8 GHz roughly.

    OK, just out of curiousity-

I am currently running the board with 2 x 1GB G.Skill F2-6400C4-2GBHK. Would I have better results running this board with a set of F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ?

On my rev 1.02 board with a vMCH mod running at around 1.8V the max FSB I can hit is 420fsb stable with two sticks of ram. With 4 sticks of ram 400FSB is the stable max.

Is there a detailed guide to PC cooling out there? I want to find out what kind of room-temp-to-CPU-temp relationship I should expect from air cooling an E6300 Core 2 Duo.

I spent over $200 on a new case and Thermaltake V1 cooler thinking my previous equipment was faulty, and it turns out that the room temperature seems to be more important.

I'm now 10C cooler most of the time (as low as 42C instead of 52C; Orthos ran up to 62C a few times now 54C maybe), while the room temperature has only dropped a few degrees F. The AS5 didn't seem to miraculously cure weeks after a desperate reapplication. All that happened is high 80F's and low 90F's outside has turned into low 80F's and high 70F's.

It's really annoying to find I'll be overclocking from October through March then overheating from March until October, but unless I do something I expect that pattern from this year will repeat itself soon. The upgrade to a hotter CPU will likely require liquid...

I don't have an E6300, but I did have an E6400 and now have an E6850. From my extensive heatsink testing with the E6400, I had the following temps in the attached image below. I can assome you would see similar temps under similar conditions.

BTW, the stock voltage is wrong there. It should be 1.35v. All temps are listed in C degrees, and room temp was kept within +/- 1 degree.

Google says: 25 degrees Celsius = 77 degrees Fahrenheit, which is close I guess. That's what the thermostat in the other room is saying now.

OC'd to 2.87Ghz, my idle tonight was 44C. What qualifies as Load: Orthos?...

For my testing I ran Orthos "blend" test and took a reading at exactly 30 minutes.

You are at 44C idle with the V1? I find that hard to believe. From everything I've read, the V1 should beat the Max Orb, which I had tested above at ~30C idle. How did you apply the AS5? It should be in a thin line across the center (lining up with the notch on the IHS). What about your BIOS fan settings? Are they all at stock?

No fan control, all spinning at will.

I've been following the rice-sized-dab-in-the-center instructions, which is supposed to be squashed out evenly enough to be OK. I read the razorblade-spread ones out there but decided the I'm not that good. Just now, I searched for other instructions and see the Official AS5 ones with the line up the center, but my tube of AS5 has started spitting out clear fluid along with the good stuff so I may have to get a new tube.

I guess since I've never seen temps as low as the 30s while OC'd since getting the P5W DH, it's always been good enough to get by on but not great.

    I'll work on it. Thanks...

Huh. Dropped back to no OC and the temp fell no further than 41C so far after 15 minutes. Maybe the heat needs time to dissipate, but I'd expect just like post-Orthos testing that it'd fall faster than THIS...

Well, I guess this is OK: my temperature range is tight even if the low isn't LOW.

No overclock (Start temp ~41C, End temp 51C per tray icon):

Full (as I can get it) overclock (Start temp ~46C, End temp 56C per tray icon):

I'll worry later if/when the temps do jump up...

    Stuck on Stock

I upgraded BIOS from 1602 to 2004 last weekend. With 2004 the vcore is locked on "auto" and will not let me change.

I decided to revert to 1602 using ASUS Update and checked the Options menu radio button accordingly, but now that says that 1602 is not compatible with this mobo and won't let me downdate.

    So I'm stuck on stock.

There must be a way to get past the "AUTO" limitation on 2004, eh? WhattaIneeds2do?

Hm, I think you have to be in manual oc mode in order to customize the vcore, I haven't touch mine for a long time, so I am not 100% sure

Yes. I had it running in manual mode with 1602 and expected to be able to replicate the rest of the setting with 2004, but could not change vcore after working my way down the page. . .

    Try Exper Tool.
I'm using it in XP with a XFX 8800GTS but dont know if it works on Vista..
    You can find it here:

Thanks for the info... i will try expert tool and give you feedback... when i used orthos, it goes to maximum of 77... so is it possible? according to t_s, the max fsb for this mobo is 480?

    Witch Drivers u use ?
If you use, and me to the 169.01 beta drivers than Exper Tool doesnt work to overclock and the speedfan settings to.
    Other drivers works perfectly.

My first Overclock.... by Fisher Price!!!

    Hi Folks,

Finally received my 2900xt, and put it all together so here are some of my initial findings with a Q6600, board revision 1.03g running bios 2301:

    Q6600
    2GB Gskill HZ
    2900XT 1GB DDR4 (o/c 838 Mhz Core 1150Mhz GDDR4)

    Max stable FSB I cold reach 350 X 9 3.15Ghz
    VMCH 1.85 Volts
    Vcore 1.35 Volts
    All other volts on stock

Gskill running at 2.1v 890Mhz 4-4-4-12 (This stuff is great I had it running at 1000 Mhz 2.3V and it was fine, just backed off as I'm new to this overclocking stuff)

Temps are 30c idle, 40c load- Thermalright Ultra 120

    Orthos Stable for 9 hours

    I tested Lawrys 2004 G0 bios but prime/orthos failed within minutes at 333 x 9
(Although Bioshock ran for about 4 hours at 1920 X 1080 with no problems)

The 2301 bios was much more stable for me, The system will even boot with a 400 x 8 but it hangs after post or will crap out at the windows loading bar. Anything between 351 - 400, The system will boot but highly unstable.

By the way.. all of the above is running on air.

That's my 2 cents, If anyone knows of any other settings I could try as I think I got lucky and there might be some more in this board for me.

Thanks again for starting this thread, the amount of information I learned here is staggering. This is my very first system build and I didn't have 1 problem assembling everything and setting the Bios thanks to this thread.
    Mobo: Rampage Formula
    Processor: Q6600 @ 3.68 Ghz 460 X 8 (1.38V)

you know I have been running this board for well over a year! This has been for me the absolute best board and system I have ever had my hands on. I have had my hands on many systems since 1979!! It has completely out-performed anything previously thought to be fast. I ran my Presler daily at 4800mhz my prescott 3.2 daily at 4400mhz, My 3.0C daily at 4086mhz and my 2.4C daily at 3637 mhz these were all extremely fast systems but they all completey fall by the way of the Conroe. now I have moved on the the Q6600 and with this new processor it is time to move on to a new board also. I just this evening ordered a new Asus board with the X38 chipset to run my new processor. My 11 year-old son Matt will take over the P5W DH along with the E6600 Conroe processor. We have a P5NE-sli board here but he want the P5W. I don't blame him So if there are to be any more posts from my place it will be from him and his thoughts. Good luck to all of you that run this board. I still believe it is worth the price you pay for it.

Good stuff I totally agree, this board is now in my other rig and still performing brilliantly, along with a E6600 also. Never had any major problems with it and has been the most stable board for me to date.

You're definitely being held back by the board. I have a good feeling that E6300 has more room in it. Try max FSB testing @ 6x multi.

And you're temps are fine. Although they seem to point to a little too much vcore, but every CPU is different.
