Samsung to highlight new display technology

    Digital information display (DID)
    Dont remember talking about this

Samsung will introduce a 40-inch diagonal full HD LCD TV panel that is 10mm thick. The new display has the same profile as 10- to 20-inch LCDs designed for desktop monitors and its bezel has been reduced from a conventional 30mm to 14.6mm, highlighted Samsung. The panel, using an LED backlight, reproduces 92% of the NTSC standard for color saturation and features power consumption of 90W or less.

Not with todays panels it doesn't. That was a problem with early Plasmas and even then it was only really a problem in the first 50 hours of use. After that burn-in period you have nothing to worry about.

Haven't heard about burn-in problems in the past year or so.

Really tried to push my Dad onto the Pioneer PDP-5080HD which I could got shipped to him for about $2200 but he really wants a LCD.

However, at the cost of much higher power consumption. As we all know, plasma displays are pretty power hungry when compared to lcd's, and especially this new one with an led backlight instead of a ccfl.

Although I can't argue that plasma will be a better bang per buck display when this thing is released.

Just give me one of these in a laptop at a fair price..I'll be waiting.

I want SED by mid 09!! No really, I've waited long enough for some decent gaming displays to arrive and yet I see this dissappointing news about ultra sleek looking LCDs. I want better performance damn it, not ergonomics & appearance!

RPG it seems SED is dead in water.

I know but I'm yet hoping legal issues will be sorted out and SED will see the light yet one day. It's a technology I'd love and think is the best and while I'm not keen on spending a lot of money on a monitor, for SED I would be ready to fork out the required cash. The good things from both CRTs + LCDs combined, sounds like a perfect mix to me...
