The power consumption seems a little high, only 20w lower than 8800GTS on load, and the cooler hardly seems up to the task, 86c on load with stock cooler/ clocks? Hopefully it means it will clock further with better cooling.
Does it use the 8800GTS PCB?
Good bang for the bucks nevertheless, now looking forward to some competition from DAAMIT. Unleash the price wars!

introd Nov 8 06. first pricing was 600+ and maintained in the low to high or mid high 500 until now. New node comes out half the price neck and neck to perf considering the price. without as much of a noticeable devaluation in the last gen (node ) cards as youd think.

Tsmc is ready for 45nm right now, that gives the current high end a year or less. So an xfire 1900xtx user is probably thinking pretty well of himself right now. since nothing drastic will happen till 45nm anyway in gaming.

That and I am mostly just funning the situation. teasing. deep breaths. This card is a really impressive card.

That could be because of the 20% higher frequency. I don't know how the power consumption scales to frequency on this part, but if it's linear the G92 core is actually a lot more power efficient.

As for DX10.1, this could be a factor, much like it was with the X800's vs the 6800's. The reason I say "could" is because DX10.1 doesn't do much in terms of visuals, while DX9C did bring improvement(FP based HDR anyone?).

Like I said, I really hope AMD/ATi have fixed their AA issues here. They could really use a win here.

Not as short as one would think. DX10.1 is more-so updates for developers than consumers. If you look over the updates, you'll see what I mean. There's not really any changes what-so-ever that directly effect the customer themself, or the quality of the image. It merely just gives the developer more control over the card directly via the api, and adds better support for multiple gpus.
Your arguments make me think it's a way more interesting step up than i previously would have thought. Anyway i was set to wait and have a see at what the rv670 will be capable of, it's good to know there is already a very good product about to be launched tho'.

If you look at the pictures of the cores you will notice that RV670 is almost 50% smaller then G92. This means that loots off money will get in ATI bank.

For markting is crucial have DX_10.1. And markting actually is almost everything

The GTS has the same amount of Pipes(Cluster) as the 8800GT but the core is clocked higher 600mhz(GT) vs 500mhz.(GTS)

seeing those benches i simply cant stop laughing at the pathetic performance of the 8600 GTS card

back to the 8800GT, looks like a winner to me, especially if one uses a decent aftermarket cooler.

Yees, I feel sooo sorry for myself, having the fastest card on the planet...
It's so very hard not to have waited the last 2 months for a card which is slower than what I got....

Sorry, I simply don't see the fuss... It's fast, yes, and relatively cheap.. But it's just a die-shrink...

Lower power consumption, close to GTX's performance and its priced almost 100% cheaper than a GTX! Its good news for those who haven't got a DX10 card or those with a crappy DX10 series card.

    A. Okay Naysayers, line up...line up !!!

    B. The RV670 will be equally competitive, seeing as its the reason Nvidia needed to released the GT in the first place. Using the "Oh they haven't fixed AA" is an excuse. People were using the 256-bit bus on the GT to assume it would never be this close in performance to the GTX, but look how that turned out.

Fact is we don't know if AA problem has been solved and if ATI is confident enough to call it the HD 3800 series, it must have something up its sleeve.

Does this mean the 8800gt won't support any form of Dx10 and can you still use it on pciex 1 even though it's standard for 2? http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?op...3741&Itemid=34

We hope so Perkam. It's this kind of competition that makes these cards perform well with good price. We win

Or perhaps that they want to distance their new lineup from the R600 embarrassment.

G80 cards are Dx10 thats what they were made for. And im sure Nvidia will adress 10.1 when it is utilized or even considered.

And i think "Gen 2 Pci-e" is backwards compatible with Pci-e
