After all the reading I have been doing I think I will stick with my 975 chipset for now.
I have a question about the X38. It has 2 pci-express slots that are 16X each. Can I run a raid card (which is an 8X pci-express card) in one of the slots and a video card in the other? I know this sounds like a noob question, but I just want to make sure before I pull the trigger on one.

Check out the Asus Maximus Formula SE. It's got built in water cooling for the NB. I'm upgrading from a 975 board (Asus P5WDG2 WS). From what I've read there will actually be BIOS settings that can be changed in Windows for the NB. This is a step up from 975 chipset IMHO. Still have yet to test the mobo, it's coming next week. I bought it because it sounds like it has alot of potential, they just need to iron out the BIOS...
Hmm, reading through Lawry's P5W DH deluxe thread i see there's a 45nm bios which leads me to believe it does support Penryn CPU's.
DDR 3 is just not mainstream yet and if prices won't come down anytime soon, DDR 2 is the only right choice.
That said, 975 chipset is still king with 1:1 FSB/mem ratio for benchmarks like SuperPi but also in 3D benches.
Coming from a P5W dh deluxe, i have a hard time matching SuperPi results with my P5K-E wifi, especially at 1:1 ratio it seems an impossible task.
Whoever is having a laugh at 975 boards probably never explored it's potential.

if you wanted ddr3 ...would x38 be the way to go or are there p35 options for ddr3 which would be just as good?
edit: well i reckon there will be more x38 mobo's to choose from as time goes by anyway...
will x38 become a mainstream board for ddr3 if / when ddr3 becomes a bit cheaper..?
i suppose the p35 is the mainstream board for now.

I don't have the cash to go to ddr3. But as was said earlier in superPI the 975 will hang in with the new chipsets. It will do crossfire, just not a 16x and 16x. But I don't run crossfire so no big deal. I am just going to wait it out for awhile.
To be honest when I buit this rig I moved up from a P4 running on a P4P800E Deluxe. That tells you something about the gains that I would like to see.

X38 has a lot of advantages over other chipsets for benchers and this forum is full of people that bench hardware a lot
it clocks CPUs and RAM higher. RAM timings tighter and produces some monster scores in all the benchmarks
no complaints here at all
wait till you fellas see a thread later on today what X38T-DQ6 gigabytes do.....kick arseand aussie prices on Gigabyte at least are about the same as P35 when first introduced so while Asus is trying to sell theirs at some ridiculous prices you can stick with other brands which aren't ripped people off blind......i love asus boards and have always used them and still do but after seeing some buy prices on wholesaler price lists last week i was shocked to see P5E3 DLX WIFI at such high prices....they will basically retail in Australia around US$450

And how would those readings be recognizable different with the normal use of a computer, compared to my current readings? I think it’s a crock of crap, all these synthetic bench tests, and different programs to compare every little iota! You would NEVER see the difference with the human eye….
Buy what you want, set it up how you want, and use it! My current set-up is rock solid, and stable as can be! H2O cooled, it run awesome!
Have some fun with it, and don’t be so anal about every little speck……………….

He obviously hasnt tweaked subtimings that well or enabled the right performance options
DDR2 900, this is 100% stable.
Thats Blend @ Priority 9, round off checking enabled.
Tweaked 900 is running damn near his 1205and I will have some stuff up for 500x7 DDR2 1000 4-4-4-10 with tight subtimings... will pull 10k
