Does it look quite strange that there is only a little over 1FPS difference between that higher clock 8800GTS 640 compared to the lower clocked 320mb?

This is strange! i think this is fault, in this resolution they must have the same clocks to perform similar

What could be the reason why the 640mb needs a much higher clock to perform at par with the 320mb in these results?

umm isnt TMU texture mapping unit??
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texture_mapping_unit
anyway as for how well the GT performs .. i am really eager to see that, as if GT beats GTS, how much will the GTS, and GTX cost?? seems like GT will be ~ $250 MSRP.. also seems like it will have 112 shaders
with 256bit interface, and lower ROP/TMU count it will be limited tho ... vs GTX's 24ROP 32TMU, and GTS's 20ROP and 24TMU, but in shader intense games it can perform near Ultra with 112 shaders @ 1500MHz vs ultra's 128SP @ 1500MHz
still waiting for that D8E tho, that G92 GX2 style card.

$250 would be awesome--can't wait to see the first rebates dropping it below $220. I'll save up a bit for one if that becomes the case.

what wattage do u think the 8800gt will run at and what power supply will it need?

Pretty much same as current 8800GTS which has TDP 108W while GTX is 145W TDP and 8800GT is rumored to be around 110W. Remember the die shrink helps quite a bit despite clocks are increased so expect it to be around 8800GTS levels.

You're wrong. Texture filter units = TMUs.
Texture Mapping Units (TMU) or Texture Filtering (TF) units.

2900XT has 16 TMUs OK ?
Although there is a noticeable trend for games to use more and more shader-based visual effects, practice suggests that complex texturing is still employed widely and the 16 TMUs of the Radeon X1950 XTX often prove to be its bottleneck. It seems so odd then to see the Radeon HD 2900 still have 16 texture filter units.Source : http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/vid...tecture_5.htmlRegrettably, ATI’s new top-end solution Radeon HD 2900 has only 16 texture filter units, which look like a potential bottleneck. The Radeon HD 2600 has only 8 texture filter units: more than in the Radeon X1600, but just as many as in the Radeon X1650 XT.
For comparison, the Nvidia G80’s texture processors contain a total of 64 texture filter units – a fourfold advantage!

Texture Fill Rate = TMUs x Core Clock Do you agree with me ?
8800GTX : 36.8GT/s : 575MHz = 64 TMUs.
TMU = Texture Mapping Unit
