Hi, people. Sorry for digging this thread up. I just wanted to know if the strap issue has been solved already.

If not, does the 1:1 strap become available when switching to 1333-MHz CPUs or OCing to those speeds?

Lastly, are there any news/reviews on the G33M-S mobo from Foxconn (also RAID-enabled and also G33-based)?

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers.

From what i have gathered, with a 1333 fsb cpu, you will get the 1:1 strap with any bios version. If you use a bios like F4a you can get 1:1 on 1066 fsb cpu's as well.
Im going to buy one but im having trouble finding a nearby place that stocks them.

Last information I had, through this thread (tongue twister... hehe), was that newer BIOSes than F4a lost the 1:1 divisor on 1066MHz CPUs. That was why I asked again if newer BIOSes "solved" this problem or not.

Ok, I got one part of my question anwered. With 1333MHz CPUs you have 1:1 available. Now, what happens when you have 800MHz or 1066MHz CPUs OC'ed to 4x333MHz? Does the 1:1 divisor become available? Or rather it still only gets the 4:5 or 2:3 divisor, since it techically is a 1066MHz CPU?

    Cheers.

I was affraid someone would say something like that...

So, basically we have a not-very-expensive mATX board that is a GREAT OC'er, but that can only deliver it's true potential with über-expensive RAM, or with 1333Mhz CPUs, usually also not very "wallet-friendly"...

Also, one can't BSEL-mod CPUs with Gigabyte boards...

    Right...

    Ok, I ask again, where are MSI's G33M and Foxconn's G33M-S reviews?

    Cheers.

Well, for me 400+ is WAAAY above my OC limit, and even 400 might only be with 1333MHz CPUs, so Foxconn doesn't look all that bad, though, for what you say, there is the same divisor problem...

So, basically, we're stuck between a non-BSEL friendly RAID-enabled divisor-lacking board (Gigabyte's) or a BSEL friendly Non-RAID divisor-filled board (Asus), which, by the way, also lacks a PS/2 port...

I really hoped MSI could save the day, though I really should stop expecting anything from them... Why is it noone tries out Foxconn on a serious review/OC run? They have been getting better, and they are almost as dirt cheap as ASRock...

    Cheers.

Morning Lads, i need a little help.

Got one of these motherboards last week to use with a Q6600 (SCLAR) and 2Gb G.Skill DDR2 6400 memory. (also have a 750w Thermaltake PSU and 8800 GTS)
Every thing posts ok at stock, and able to get installs of XP and Vista no problems. My problem happens when i try and play a game of Supcom. The OS crashes to a Blue Screen. But its so fast i cant see what is causing the error.

I noticed that the stock memory voltage is 1.8v, but the memory says to run either 2.0v or 2.1v. So ive set the memory voltage to 2.1/2.2 and it appears to keep the whole thing stable. And have been able to play a few games.

Any one else running a similar setup to mine, and can recommend any half decent BIOS settings using a Quad. Also i know this memory is ment to have very fast timings CAS Latency : 4-4-3-5 (PC2-6400) according to Overclockers
but CPU-Z shows the timings as 5-5-5-15 as its stocksetup. And there appears to be no where in the BIOS where i can manual set the memory timings, am i correct?

Any hope or advice would be appreciated and ill post my results also.

Gigabyte often use ctrl+f1 to access more options in bios.

Should be the same with m-atx boards also.

Ok, thanks for the help on this thread so far lads. But ive still got a problem.

Ive been able change my memory settings to what they should be. Ran a load of memtests and all confirm the memory is working perfectly.
My Quad Core is running between 45 and 60 degrees (depending on load) which is what id expect as its only using a standard Retail cooler in a Thermal Take LAN-Boy case (the only heat sink that ive found fits atm).

Built both a new XP OS and a Vista OS on seperate drives, so i can fiddle around with settings. I disable one drive to work on the one OS so there is no crossover.
Ive used drivers from both the CD provided and the Drivers online and all appears to be working perfectly fine. Full system spec is as follows.

    Thermaltake LAN-Boy
    Intel Core2Quad Q6600 - stock voltage
    GA-G33M-DS2R Mobo
    G.Skill 2Gb ram - 2.2v - 4-4-4-12
    500Gb Seagate, 320Gb Maxtor
    Pioneer DVD-RW 212 & Samsung DVD-RW SH-S202JBEBN
    BFG 8800 GTS 320mb - 162.18 WHQL XP Driver
    Thermaltake 750W Toughpower PSU

    Now here is the problem.

The PC will reboot if play any games for a prolong period of time. eg a game of Supcom. It Blue screens but its so fast i cant see the error. When windows comes back up it says its suffered from a 'Stop Error' caused by a device driver. But doesnt tell me which driver.
Media Player and VLC player will fail if playing any HD avi at full screen (24" Dell) but will play as long as i dont full screen the program.
3DMark 2006 will fail towards the end of all the tests it doesn. But if i run the bog standard tests they run to completetion.
Orthos or Prime 95 will run for several hours with no errors so far. Ive not tested any longer than 3 hours using these.

So all my tests so far are showing that the CPU and Memory appears fine. But some thing else is causing it to reboot. But windows cant tell me what. Im thinking Graphics card or GPU driver atm. Can any one offer me some suggestions.

Note: Im not sure if i should create a seperate post for this or not. So if the Admin feels that this post needs moving please do so.

    Many thanks.

Its ok found the fault. After 8 days of testing and rebuilding XP 17 times while changing hardware around i discovered that the Q6600 was faulty. Just got a new one delievered today.
So the rebuilding begins again. Hopefully no one else will get a dud Q6600.

    Bump: some questions here

    1) What kind of Vdroop are people with quads experiencing on this board?

    2) Is there a Vdroop mod?

    3) Is the max Vcore that 1.8V I saw in the first page/post?

    4) Can you have a SATA RAID array + a SATA optical drive at the same time on the motherboard?

    1) on a b3 x3210, i've seen it as bad as .1v

    2) Hope so

    3) Yes. Don't expect to hit it.

    4) Think so. I can check.

Does anyone have a "rebooting" issue with this board? As in, if it's been running a while, it just KEEPS resetting, over and over, until you let it sit unplugged for oh - 20 minutes, after which it's fine?

no way!!! it's a giga board. so, same ratio!
    the max fsb is 340!
otherwise a good mb if coupled with a c2d fsb1066 or a c2d fsb1333 (but no ocing marging with the last one)

pvhk, I think breakfromyou was complaining about the memory, not the OC capabilities... Maybe he messed up with the timings, or those are REALLY BAD 667 sticks...

Oh, and pvhk, since you're here, please take a look here and here. Since you have a Gigabyte board, maybe you can answer one of my questions.

    Thanks in advance.

the bsel mod is ineffective on giga!
it works only on somes 945g like conroe945g dvi, p5lD2vm!

Even if the ratio 2x or 2.66x is enabled for c2d fsb 800 (for example) via a modded bios: it is not possible to raise the fsb over 260...

First of all, sorry for the delay on the reply. I still don't get it why the XT forum sometimes doesn't inform me about thread updates...

Both of the BSEL mods? I know the "BSEL+VCC" doesn't work, that was said over and over again already. I'd like to know about the "BSEL+VTT" mod, since it appears to be somewhat different. I know, wishful thinking. But hey, one can dream, right?

You mean this board can't go above 260MHz with 800MHz CPUs? Or that just happens when you enable the 1:1 divider on the BIOS for those CPUs?

Oh, well... Problems, problems... I'd like to get a mATX board capable of handling a Quad (no 945-based boards, then), with some OC capabilities (bye-bye 775i85G , and G31-based), and with RAID support (no Asus, ECS, Biostar, etc.). Also, only AMD and Intel make Dual-channel compatible IGP chipsets, so NVIDIA is also out... Shame, 7150PV+630i looks like the bomb...

As of now, I've narrowed it down to four boards: F-I90HD/4Core1333-FullHD (X1250), the Abit one being prone to RMA issues, the ASRock being... well, ASRock, not very fond of OC in the first place; and both not being Intel-based (I'm kind of a Intel who, I confess... ).

The other two are the GA-G33M-DS2R (I guess we'll never see the DS3R, or the Asus P5K-VM Deluxe... hehe) and the G33M-S by Foxconn. The Giga has the "divider issue", and I can't find practically anything on the Foxxconn... Including prices here in Portugal... lol Any help on that (links to reviews, etc.)?

Also, anyone knows when G35-based mobos are supposed to hit the shelves? Asus does already have "space" for them in the site, but nothing is there yet...

Cheers and thanks for the help.

the fsb is locked up to 260 only when the bios is modded to enable hidden 2.66x ratio for c2d fsb800! (ratio 2x even though unlocked does not work...)

Perhaps there's a coding problem Gigabyte just doesn't want to get around because of the board being a "DS2"... Shame, appart from that it would be a basically perfect board...

And thanks for the info on G35. Checking it right now.

I just had a go trying max FSB with my board, I can boot and stable @515MHz with onboard graphics...all on stock volts...and it's my crappy RAM that is stopping me.

I do run only one stick in single channle though, but anyway...amazing!
