Hi guys Im having some strange things with this mobo. I got it few days ago and first thing i noticed is that the ASUS POSTER doesnt work. I dont know how to configure it to work. The next thing I was wondering if it is normal when you complitly turn off the PC and start it again it runs for a few seconds then it shuts down by itself and goes to boot again. Is it normal ???

boot issue is normal...if you disconnect mains poer, the next time it starts, it starts with default chipset strap, and then must power off and restart in order to start with the strap selected in BIOS.

You can change settings for the LCD poster within the BIOS.

Isn't it what the onboard battery is for?

    No win app?

ON-board will hold settings, yes, but this does not prevent the chipset from starting with the default 266mhz strap. Because of the way the chipset is initialized, it is only possible to adjust the strap when the chipset is not on...it must "start" with those settings. If you are having issues with straps and "double starts" while mains power is connected, maybe you should look elsewhere for an issue...my board boots fine after initial strap change. Board will ALWAYS boot on default strap after mains disconnect, or PSU trun off, as some cpu's, etc, may not boot under other conditions...Safety feature to ensure a proper boot is all, really.

LCD Poster: no app that I am aware of...it simply tells you what is happening when the board boots, and then changes to a clock. the display doesn't really tell you much either....it says what the board does, kinda, but the info provided is jsut "labels", and not what is actually reported by a true POST reader.

Nah, I don't think you are...like I said, it's kinda useless anyway, other than finding a use for old screens. But maybe your board has issues...I dunno...mine worked right from the first time I powered up the board.

Well, yes, you should use the fan. it will blow air through the silver part down onto the mosfet cooler...and they got those coolers for a reason, IMHO.

Nevermind that the whoel reason for the fan was for set-ups as you mention...it says to ONLY use in such a situation.

    Thanks for the reply.

The manual has: "Install the optional fan only if you are using a passive cooler or a water cooler. Installing the optional fan with an active CPU cooler will interfere with the airflow and destabilize the system".

Due to me not having a passive water cooler, and having an active water cooler, I didn't want to destabilize the system.

I think this could have been worded better?

I will install the fan now!!

Yeah saw that...man I feel for him. Mine came off very hard, had to pry on both sides at the same time and even then I wasnt sure if it was gonna give or not

Im thinking a little freezer action may provide some cheap insurance here.
Any downside to this if one uses good time managment doing so?

Will ditch my GA-X38-DQ6 that does not OC with the same settings twice and canīt OC my OCZ PC9200 over 1067MHz stable or sometimes not even stock settings on everything no matter what BIOS used, seems that board is released way to early or with the crapy chip from first batch that was recalled.
2x1GB or 2x2GB is not an option for me since 2x2 are way to expensive for good kit (Mushkin PC8500).
Im running 4x1GB and its flawless at any speed (up to DDR2 1250 5-5-5-15) and so long as the divider isnt borked.

These settings are 24/7 rock solid. 12hour SmallFFT, 12hour LargeFFT - then ran ram through Memtest86+ for 8hrs and its running a 24 hour Blend @priority 9 right now.

Also have 500x7 DDR2 1000/1250 4-4-4-10/5-5-5-15 working as well and stable.

500x7 takes 1.45v and a slight increase on the NB/FSB voltages and ram takes 2.28v for DDR2 1250 stable at 5-5-5-15 with some pretty good subtimings. I got some screenies goin up soon as blend finishes for 450x8.

Done nothing with 400x9 with DDR2 800 or 1000 but I would imagine its all the same, I like higher FSB's more

    A little test

Heres the difference between tweaked subtimings and AUTO

Untweaked (AUTO) and Transaction Booster to AUTO

Tweaked with Transaction Booster to (2)

The subtimings I have been using 7-3-5-4-6-4-6 have been great, real stable as well according to blend and memtest. I will be trying to lower the values some more in the coming days.

    -Cheers

Just an interesting find as I was testing the board.... Memtest 86+ Test #7 is a great way to load/check subtimings and ram timings on this board. Its the only test I have had error for Maximus, and it does it when the timings are too tight, or not enough voltage.

Try it out, lemme know if anyone else sees this.
