DFI DK X58-T3eH6 on Test
I've just bought my new mobo, the asus p5k deluxe wifi-ap, but my i'm a bit confused and concerned, does this motherboard really runs that hot? i mean, it's running extremely hot compared to my old good one p5w dh deluxe, even with everything on stock clocks, the cpus runs hotter compared to my p5wdh deluxe, and the cpu seems to get hotter pretty much faster when it's under load compared to the p5wdh deluxe, my cooler is a thermaltake bigtyphoon, and before putting the cpu onto the motherboard, i put a new thermal paste on it, and everything, so, that's not the problem, anyone here knows if this is normal? (My cpu is a Q6600 (B3) + ASUS P5K Deluxe wifi). Thanks. And eva, congratz for the topic, extremly useful and helpful.![]()
I switched to the p5k deluxe from the p5wdh about 2 weeks ago and my cpu temp is the same the board temp reads a little bit higher at 30c for cpu and mb temp idle. I am using bios 503.
This is with a oc of 440x7 with 1.425v set in bios.
My cpu is a e6400 so maybe quads read different?

Hey Zone
I had a P5W DH before, now i have a P5K deluxe, only switched mobo and memos, temps are still fine on mine, only thing is that i have to go from 1,4875 to 1,5 to make my E6600 batch L709A422 in this one....From what I heard the QUADS run hot...I also have the same cooler as you a BIG TYPHOON VX with AS5 as thermal paste...
IDLE and with 22C ambient
OC 2,4@3,6 1,5 VCcore and 1066@1128 5-4-4-9 2,2 VDimm
22C on my CPU and 26/28 the Cores
29C the mobo
Regards
Sergio
I would take the read out's with a grain of salt there , as your cpu idles at the same temp as ambient... which bios do you run on our board, from 04 bios on temps changed a bit to more realistic values, even coretemp readouts, never though a bios could inluence those....
If you eve rgo for a quad just make sure you have a GO, as those run cooler as the B3's ( still floating around ).
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved
Remark : They call me Pro AsusSaaya yupp, I agree
Sorry mates, look at this. It's my first attemp to speed up the GHz with this mobo but I think my micro is very bad. The pic shows a 350x9 attempt. If the CPU Vcore is less than 1,437 (in Bios) windows dont start...And it's unstable
I tryed before 333x9 getting 3.0GHz stable with 1,37V...
All the rest of parameters in Bios (Ram frequency, timings, etc...) are in auto (all default)
What is happening? What can I do? Plz help meI'm newbie...
I only need a guideline... please

i think the P5K-E WiFi is for me. need to get ready for my future quad
main reason i'm picking asus is for their voltage damper thing = almost no vdroop.

I had an e6600 and it needed 1.5v-1.525v to get to 3.6 stable(400x9) -yours may not even run at 3.6. All CPUs are different - some run higher on less volts - its luck of the draw . You are best to enter manual settings on the P5K as some are adjusted automatically when you raise FSB and leave them on auto. Not always what you want. Try these and see how you get on. Change the FSB to 350 for starters and set vcore at 1.45v. Run the RAM 1:1 eg select the DDR that = 2xFSB. Boot and if stable close and Increase FSB in increments of 10 rebooting each time to check if stable.. Once you establish the maximum you can boot stable at with 1.45v raise vcore by .025v increments until you can reach FSB 400 which will give you 3.6Ghz (if you can that is) Raise NB to 1.55 if you start struggling for stabliity. I wouldnt go above 1.5v at this point - make sure core temps are okay e.g in the 50's on load. PC wizard has a nice temp monitor facility. Download from here http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php load it and then minimise - temps will appear in top right corner of screen

hows the new bios compared to the 0311, yes I am still on it.
I got "weird situation" here, before my lap I needed 1.440 vcore at least( any lower vcore= reboot within 2-3 hours) for 400x9 to pass 8 hours+ small FFTS and it will hit 70-71c. After I lapped the TRUE+ cpu I could get 13 hours small FFTs prime stable with just 1.408 vcore:X ( would do even @ 1.392vcore up to 9h and 30min before 1 core got a rounding error)during load it hits 54c. I used the same settings as before the lap, except for few minor changes, I put the cpu refv : x0,63 and SB@ 1.05 instead of AUTO, so I dont know if these settings helped to get things stable with lower volts or lapping, however I thought I tried with this setting before the lap and coundt get it stable with lower volts.

Download from here http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php load it and then minimise - temps will appear in top right corner of screenBut I have one more question, about the temp. I've readed in another forum that 1.45-1.5V maybe is dangerous for the CPU if it's air cooled. Notice that I have the Asus Silent Square... Well, I can see the temps carefully, but over 60ºC is dangerous no? Or the Core2Duo can work at more temperature?
Imagine that finally I get 3.6GHz stable with for example 1,475 in bios (1,45 in cpu-z or CoreTemp). Would be this configuration appropiate for 24/7?
Anybody have this voltajes on air cooling???
Thanks

No - I just read a lot - plenty far far more knowlegable than me ln these forums. That where I learnt from.
Read this for a temp guide to conroes - http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/...perature-guide
I would cetainly try to keep an E6600 under 60c on Prime load - keep the o/c within these limits. You should idle about 45c or less with 3.6 with 1.5v if the HSF is any good and load less than 60c on prime. Reseat the HSF with AS5 if hits much higher.
I would be suprised if you get 3.6 with 1.475 v more like 1.5-1.525v else you got lucky with the CPU. Remember you dont need to run 3.6 its only a target. 3.2 -3.4 on less vcore (1.4v or less)would be a very good overclock. The e6600 is 2.4GHz stock remember. You can always run the memory on a divider to get it to DDR800 or more or increase FSB and drop multiplier to keep the CPU at a lower speed but memory at rated speed e.g 400 x8 =3.2 with memory running DDR800 . I ran my E6600 24/7 on 1.5v with an arctic freezer 7 Pro (£15 - best performance for price) no problem. Remember you wont be running Prime95 or orthos all the time so it wont reach their load temperatures as a rule. As long as u have good idle temps and acceptable load with games/apps you will be fine. Yes overclocking with increased volts/temps will reduce the lifespan of the CPU but not so you will notice for the year or 2 that u have it unless you really fry it.!

Well just read the entire thread... wow... my eyes hurt.
Just got my P5K-D here in Thailand and setting up now. Looks like the 601 bios is good to use with the G0 Q6600. My board came with version 2xx
Luckily it's monsoon season here on Samui so room temps are quite low (around 25 degrees C) overclocking on air here so hoping for 3.0Ghz.
It's good to be back on the OC scene, it's been too long!

Hi there!
i noticed, and i dont remember if it was always like this, but, when i always come to turn on my pc, i press power button, it turns on, turns off, and turns on again, just like after some OC setting attempt. I dont know if it is any common, but shouldnt my pc just turn on and keep going, instead of everytime shuting down by itself and powering up again?
I am currently using 1.33v and 9x345 in my quad, and it seems really nice, no crash, anything.
Voltage report on EVEREST:
CPU core: 1.33v
AUX: 3.44v
+3.3V: 3.34v
+5V: 5.62V
+12V: 12.34V
+5V Standby: 5.07V
VBAT Battery: 1.38V
Does this sound corretly? I have always got +3.3V, +5V and +12V voltages, always under their respective thresholds, on other mobos, but on this one it seems that values always get higher than the threshold. Any problem on this?
Thank you!

BIos reading are very in accurate regarding 12v rail f.e. , @ bios it shows that my HX620W puts out: 11.905 and fluctates to 11.875 or so. I had my doubts and used a Multimeter to record it : I did several tests, result was:
boot: 12,00 and fluctates to 11.99 and back every 8 secs or so during idle. Then I runned Prime : every 3 secs it jumps to from 12.00 to 11.99, and then the final test prime+ 3dmark06 at the same time : every check from 12.00 to 11.99 and back, and it doesnt even droop more. So conclusion what bios show/ probe reads isnt accurate. Just buy a dimm from ebay : 5-10 dollars and follow this guide: http://forums.extremeoverclocking.co...d.php?t=137886, very easy
PS: anyone , did notice any improvement from bios 0601 over 0311?

Talk about inacurate, these cheap multimeters are inacurate as h3ll.
Get a fluke or something similar to do some real measurement.
My P5K-E wifi does switch on -off and on again on powering up as well, i have to add, i always kill power after turning my computer off.

Yeah thats nice, i thought it was some kind of problem with either overclock or energy feeding, but then i got an APC no-break solution now, so i think i'd hardly ever have any eletrical issues as i had some weeks ago, when my psu exploded lol.
But thats ok, good to see people sharing some experiences with that aswell.
My mobo has been performing pretty nicely, very low 1.33v and 3.1 GHZ so far, pretty nice and stable! no issues til now, its really a good buy!
how has it been with you guys?
