I mean that the stock heatsink and fan that comes boxed with the retail versions of Intel processors (like my new Q6600 for example) does not fit on this board. The position of the power mosfets and caps around the CPU socket prevent any HSF which does not have at least 5mm clearance (roughly) above the copper base from resting on the socket properly.

What Asus have done is assumed that anyone using this board will be using a HSF that features heatpipes, or a watercooling solution. I'll take a picture tonight to explain better.

I say it won't affect many of us because I assume that most XS forumites are probably running more serious cooling solutions than the stock HSF. It just annoys me because I have everything I need to get my new rig up and running apart from a cooling solution. My watercooling gear might not arrive for days

thanks for the reply. that's the clarification i wanted. i'm also running WC'ing and have my gear but i wanted to use the stock cooler just to get it up and running before filling my loop and all that jaz... it would be really annoying to have to drain it after finding out something went wrong. then again i could probably just detach the block from the cpu. damn, i make everything harder then it has to be, lol.
