LOL - it's been a while since I saw somebody declaring a mobo "amazing" 'cause it does 3.4GHz with an Intel CPU...

The boards are identical except for the NB-heatsinks. So both got Asus EPU.

    ASUS EPU
Enables the Most Energy Efficient Motherboard in the World
The ASUS EPU utilizes innovative technology to digitally monitor and tune the CPU power supply with improved VR responses in heavy or light loadings. It automatically provides power for higher performance or improve efficiency by 7% when the PC is running low intensity applications. Working together with AI Gear 3, this can help you attain the best possible power efficiency and energy savings up to 58.6% to help save the environment.

3.4 is my initial overclock, the same chip wouldnt go above 3.15 stable on my last board. havnt measured the vdroop but its obvious the vcore is much more stable.... i'm having to use my old freezer pro7 as my swiftech kit hasnt arrived yet. considering i'm on air aswell i would consider the x38 chipset and the P5E mb in perticular to be good even amazing lol....

I know this won't apply to many of us, and I don't know if it's already been said, but I I thought it worth mentioning that this board is so extreme it won't even accept the stock Intel HSF.

I got my Maximus Formula SE yesterday, and I don't have a socket 775 cooling solution just yet, I was hoping to use the stock unit I could get one. It doesn't fit!

I will use water , it is the will be strange not pulling off all the stock cooling for a change, usually thats my first job is to remove all the heatsinks

I am going water too (First build). I noticed this board has a 4 pin CPU fan headder in the board. I currently only have 3 pin fans. If you are going water, do you need a fan connected there, for the board to boot? I heard some boards actually require a CPU fan to be connected when booting?

If so, what do water guys usually do with that fan, and what type to get?

Do we need to be shopping for a fan that connects to a 4 pin headder, or can we just leave him be?

You're right . In asus website both boards are advertised with EPU feature.

I think it will just give fan fail on first boot and then set to ignore in hardware , if its the same as the p5k premium that is

Sounds like fan fail dosen't stop it from booting up, just gives you an error.

I can live with that. I thought it might have been game over, like as in not booting at all until you plugged one in.

I don't have anny issues with a 12Cm fan with a 3 pin powerconnector connected to the 4 pin CPU header, boots up fin each time, just needs to detect rpm
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

well i thought the P5E and the maximus formula looked alike but as it turns out it is the same board. where the motherboard says P5E its a long black sticker. i didnt even notice it at first. someone on XS just pulled it off and maximus formula was underneath.......

now the question is can we use a maximus bios for the extra options.

On Commando me Cellshock did 620mhz cas 5 max, on this board a little better:

A little less vcore needed for 4ghz (according to probe at least)

Setfsb works fine. Unfortunately i dont have much time to test stability so 1M for now.
