Hey guys, i just got my DFI P965 Dark for my brothers new computer, however there are only 3 ram multi's available, putting a hamper on the overclocking as i only have OCZ platinum to work with atm. Highest OC i can get is 2.4ghz, i updated the bios to the latest version however it doesnt give me any extra multi's.
Amazing how user's will purchase another board to acheive better overclocking results without fully exploring the capabilities of their current board. Keenan's results are nice though unproven as far as stability goes, but I think it would have been at least possible to achieve Praz's results had more time been spent trying to acheive them.

I don't think this board has ever had dividers to reduce fsb. Only 533 = 1:1, 667 = 4:5 & 800 = 2:3.

I put a G0 quad (L728A) in my P965-S and can get it up to 9x390 (7 hours prime stable) but had to ramp up voltages all around.
Vcore: 1.472 idle / 1.440 load
VTT: 1.425
NB: 1.40
I've never been able to hit 400 FSB or over at any divider at any voltage without Windows rebooting as soon as I start Prime. Also, with the quad in, I have cold boot issues where it takes up to 4 or 5 restarts before the board will successfully post. Tried this with 2 different P965-S boards with the same results.

keenan nice results juss need to see prime go on a lil longer than startup... im looking into another board... i havent gave up on this board yet either... it is nice to have another board laying around to see if your cpu works better in it. ive spent about 5 weeks on this board to end up at 330fsb..

Is this board more difficult then it should be with quadcores?. Probably. The only way most will see good results is with a systematic approach. The settings and voltages I ended with are good only for that FSB. If I leave everything as is and drop down 20 or so FSB the system is no longer stable.
GTL+ Driving Strength is a good example. At 320 I had to set it to Mode 1. Around 370 it needs to go to Mode 2. For each bump in FSB that brings instability each setting/voltage needs to be tried one at a time.
I do want to add that with my E2160 I easily got speeds of 3.6Ghz with 1.6V. Some of these boards just dont clock as good as others.

Hey Dark79 VERY NICE. @ 4:5 even.... that is truly amazing for this board. Can you post your bios settings?
Also are you using air?
What is the voltage reading from smartguardian when running prime? Approx .03 vdroop?

Also, I flashed back from 9/02 bios back to the 4/24 bios and no longer have cold boot issues.
Not sure these settings will help much as I've tried both Praz's and GripS's but neither of them are stable for me. I think it's all about experimentation and finding out what your board likes.

okay lil bit of update... i was about to prime 333fsb for over 8hrs... i up the vnb 1.3 and change my mem subtiming... tras to 15 and trfc to 38... its not that big of a gain but i can finally prime 333fsb without system hard rebooting
