    @ Micutzu,

Are you a power systems EE? As I was thinking about specializing in Micro electronics, but i'm also very interested in power. I have another 2 years before I finish my computer engineering degree, but i'm going to double in EE.

Is PWM design covered for all EE majors or just Power systems? Or maybe I'm not understanding it at all

I've never done anything like this before so excuse the repeated n00b questions lol.

    1. So I literally just take a #2 writing pencil and draw a line from metal to metal on the resistor?

    2. Over time will the graphite wear off? Does the line need to be redrawn every so often?

Hey, can you mesure what resistance is in the vdrop mod place after mod? From what to what it is needed to change, to get lover idle voltage than full load 1.4 bios and 1.41 under hardf laod would be excelent, as now im having 1.575 in BIOS and its 1.48v real under 3.825 Mhz Quad laod

All I can tell you is I used B pencil and did it first time little to much, I set in bios 1.40625v and got 1.4 in bios, so in win it was also 1.4 for IDLE but 1.42 @ LOAD, so I removed little bit with my finger and then reapply some and after third reapply it was ok, now I have under load 1.406 about and this is just fine for me. I have my CPU now @ 3.6 and 1.4v and it's stable and my temp are very great for air cooling
Good Luck but you don't need it

Hmm, need to mod it, as i cant stand that my load voltage is jumping all time, Im going to get more than 3900 Mhz for Prime now in tests, maybe this will help a lot for lower temps in idle and load + more stable Mhz at full load too

First test under LN2 with the new mods ... it runs OK, this is with only 1.82V (chip can take about 2V on LN2). Vcore is very clean and stable.

Hey, realy nice, what mod gave you 530 FSB on 680i benchable? Have you tested Quad CPU on this moded board and FSB scaling with it? Nice stuff.

Except for the Vdimm mod plus the 4 mods + extra caps that help Vcore, the board has no other modifications. The CPU is good for high FSB (540+ on DFI 965, 600++ on Asus P5K with VPLL mod), and other mods tried so far (VGTL+, VSPP) did not help. The only thing I might need to investigate is the VPLL mod, if it's possible it may bring a new light to 680i benching.

Any update for VPLL mod on this eVGA 680i board? What stock voltage is for these boards?

    hey
im new to the forum and was reading up on the Vdroop mod,

i currently cant overclock past 2.93 and i have tried every Vcore up to 1.6000, i can post but when it comes to loading the vista screen it crashes, im not sure but when it loads vista i think that the computer is under heavy load and i am having a big Vdroop?. (sorry if that sounded noobie lol) should i go ahead and do the Vdroop mod or will it not help me overcome 2.93

    my system is
    Q6600
    Asus P5n32-e SLI
    8800gtx
    550w
    4gb geil 667 ram ( i have tried using only 2gb)

    thanks in advance

Kashelz > the board i've used died, i need to get another one and try, unfortunately i don't have too much spare time .

SilentSnake > i think you have an old EVGA 680i version, without the VGTL+ correction for high FSB on quads ... see the product code, if it ending in "R" (like 122-CK-NF68-AR) then you can email EVGA and swap it for a new revision that clocks quads well (with "1" instead of "R").

Back in the first post Symphy mentions that the v-core can be measured via,

Vcore Readout is at every solid state capacitor around the CPU socket (I took the + contact).
Well guys is there any place to get the v-core from the front-side of motherboard since it's now mounted in case?

I see this is posted for "D00 revision" do we know what it does to the "C00 revision" boards? I'd love to do a pencil mod on my board, which is a C00 version. I've got a .02-.03 vdrop and a .01-.02 vdroop.

and just to clarify, it the pencil mod just a vdroop mod? is there also a point for vdrop?

(droop being durring load, drop being difference between set voltage and actual)

couldn't this be prevented by applying some tape over the graphite?

I want to do both the Vcore and the vdrop mod on my 680i.

I however have no idea where to buy the VRs for this, my local radioshack only sells fixed resistors. I've tried farnell & mouser etc... but there are SOOO many choices I have no idea where to begin.

Anyone able to link me the exact VRs I would need for this?
I saw this on ebay, seems to be similar to what I usually see used.

    any suggestions?
