How to overclock Radeon HD 2900 XT CrossFire

I've been working on this together with macci and Kinc, and since I know that many of the people that have asked me about how to overclock Radeon HD 2900 XT CF hand around here as well I thought it would be a good idea to post it here as well.

Basically this is a deeper and more thorough explanation of how to overclock 2900 XF using AMD GPU Clock Tool and the "switching monitor" method. Enjoy.

For the last few months we've been doing quite a lot of benchmarking and testing with the Radeon HD 2900 XT. Overclocking a single graphics card has proven to be quite a challenge, and overclocking two of them in CrossFire mode is even harder. Especially as the drivers don't bring support for overclocking cards running CrossFire, but ATI decided to find a workaround for the most extreme users by supplying BIOSes with adjusted frequencies. These are not for everyone though. But today we can present you with this guide that shows you how to overclock Radeon HD 2900 XT CrossFire. No need for any additional BIOSes, just a few simple applications available for everyone.

"We've received many e-mails over the last few months regarding how to overclock two Radeon HD 2900 XT in CrossFire mode. Unfortunately we haven't had a good answer for you, but with some help from macci, now a resident of AMD/ATI, we can now present this guide, which shows you how to overclock Radeon HD 2900 XT when you have two of them running in CrossFire mode."

It's not the fastest way to overclock. But it is worth it for sure.

one of those purple dvi-HDTV converters will work, or plug in a second monitor.

Haven't tried Vista yet, Sorry. You could try adding a second "bogus" monitor if you don't have another to connect.

I'll see if I can find a workaround.

So, I'm looking at a dual RV670 setup shortly once it launches... can you just flash the BIOS of your cards once you've found safe clocks, and it will work every reboot then, or is there some issue preventing this method?

EDIT: Upon researching, this isn't doable... anyone have any idea if AMD is fixing this soon? This may be enough to cause me not to go crossfire... looks like a pain to do for normal 24/7 usage.
