your E6600 should be fine, when we say naked, we are saying that the IHS has been removed (that would be the silver thing on the top of the CPU), and i found the fan to be adequite so i dont see any change necessary. But make sure your getting the S1283, the S983 did not perform so well, i dont have the results of that smaller version released yet, but i can tell you that its not nearly as high up on the list as the S1283. The S983 is also the similar design of the OCZ Vendetta... so thats all i have to say about that
