Nope, won't post. I did remove the xfi card. Tried one stick of ram in all slots. Tired just one HD in different sata ports. I can hear the drives but for some reason there's no video. This is a brand new Q6600 that I've never ran before. It would be weird if the chip was bad

Quick question. When you fire it up and it shows error codes, should I be noting those down or do I just care about what error code it sits on? (hope that made sense)

if it won't post..first thing to do is re-seat your cpu...it could be not positioned correctly in the socket...

note all codes at post...if you start with "C1" and then go through a series of codes to end with "FF" but no video on the monitor, it could be the video card...if it is a memory problem, you will stop at "C1" post code....but...if you are voltage is to low for the cpu, you will get no video...that is why it might be the cpu which is not positioned correctly in the socket.

Thanks for all the help Ace but I have verified that my VC is toast which really blows because its a 8800GTX. I put a friends card in my machine and it posted just fine.

I figured that was the problem. FF means that there are no problems during post and it will boot from the item you have set to boot. So it was actually running fine, you just coudln't see anything. You also should have seen the post LED run through all the lil numbers ex.) c1, etc until it reached FF. The x-fi problem is beginning to be a bit overrated. There are very minimal x-fi hardware compatiblity problems. It is mainly the drivers from creative that are the problem. BTW, the only defect that I have hard of so far with the newest stable 64bit x-fi drivers are the mic crackling noise. That's it. I use onboard so that isn't really a problem.

I hate to keep bangin' on the same issue, but P5B Deluxe doesn't crackle. This board does. I don't see how that's a software issue.

I'm strictly talking about the MIC-IN. Output sound is excellent though. And the way I know that the MIC-IN is a software issue is because the March drivers from creative FIX the crackling issue for the MIC-IN. I still like having the latest drivers though so screw the march drivers, I'm with onboard mic for now

Yeah unfortunately I did mod it, pulled off the stock fan/heatsink and had my water block on it. Does anyone know how they would know if you modded it or not? The fan is just held onto the card with screws so it seems that I should be able to just put the fan back on it and hope for the best.

They might, they might not. I guess it all depends on if there was 'physical' damage or not.
Since it was modded, just don't get your hopes up that they will honor your warranty. You can cross your fingers though.

I think a couple pages back you were talking about how to do the vdroop mod, but you said you were going to mod everything then turn install it and turn on the pc after you have done everything For future reference, this is a bad idea. When I received my components, I tested them right there and then as soon as I took them out of the box...24 hour prime stable until I said ok, everything is a GO! I was anticipating that you'd be heartbroken to find that the motherboard didn't work after you put so much effort into doing the vdroop mod and the heatpipe mod... Better luck on your next board. BTW, if you haven't applied any TIM to the heatpipe cooler, than you're in good shape for them to return it. If you did then, just clean it off real nice, some people prefer isopropyl but I purchased the arctic cooling TIM remover which is a god send. Remove the vdroop mod (clearly) but if you did use an IDE wire just pull the wire off carefully. Good luck

it all depends on what else you removed beside the stock heatsink with its built in fan...i have a lot of those thermal pads (TIM) interfacing the heatsink and memory...not sure if they used paste as their TIM of choice on the actual VC chipset...if you had any of the above mentioned and you removed it, i would guess they would see that.

the only thing you have to lose is nothing!...you card is broke now...what are they going to do NOT send you one because you modded it!...i'd say, go for it!...just rma it and hope for the best.

Haha, this reminds me of the X850pro that I flashed to XT PE and they still accepted the rma and sent me a new card with cables and adapters when I sent them the bare card only
    PS: it was ATI

well if xfx is like evga, they should return the card. just make sure you put the stock cooler back on. Chk the website, for example on evga they state they will refuse returns if the card comes back without the orignal cooler. it doesnt matter if the stock TIM is back on the card, only that the cooler is intact.

Could anyone sum up the pros and cons (issues) with this board? I've been looking for a new board for ages, and I just can't decide which one to get as all boards seem to have one or two pretty annoying quirks. I've heard great things about the IP-35, so...

I was thinking of waiting for X38, but seeing the early reviews I'm not sure if it's worth it considering I will not change to DDR3 anytime soon.

Edit: Oh, and I plan on using a G0 Q6600.

So far the only con I see is the Vdroop issue beyond that its a very solid board.

Yeah, that's also a good point. But I'm really itching for some quad core action. Not because I really need it, but because I'm rather bored of my current hardware as I've had it for over a year. You know how it is with money burning a hole in your pocket

I'm also having some annoying issues with my P5W at the moment which it would be good to get rid of.

For the money spent I would not hesitate to recommend this board to anyone considering the D.F.I P35 that I spent $300.00 on lasted all of 2 hrs before it went into continuous reboot and no post vs the Abit that I spent $189.00 on that runs trouble free minus 1 dead USB port.

Another vote for wait Putting aside the fact that the IP35 Pro is an excellent board, newer technology is newer technology X38>P35 ... simply put. I had no other option, it was either build a new system now (upgrade from a p4 s478 ) or wait another two months which is physically impossible for me
