i do realize that... that is why i know that a "how to" will not happen... but useful information reagarding the use of my drivers in some obscene fasion provided in nothing more than links, keywords, and or general hints... how is that really forbidden... perhaps i would like to create my own drivers to work with my hardware completly free of anything nvidia? (yeah and monkeys will fly out of my butt!)

Well guys, as it is stated in a thread or a post before, the thing that makes it tick is in the *v*_mini.**s file. This means that if you have the forceware mod of big_sam; 84.43, 84.56, 84.66, 85.96, etc, then you can customize your own forceware prior to 87.xx. Collection of forceware archives can be found in laptop2go, and you can use 165+ xml for SLI profiles. You can import them using nHancer or copy-paste nvapps.xml to your system32 folder.

Personally, I am currently using 86.62 (Asus driver with a **d inf). The original driver was WHQL, but of course, changing the inf voided that. The miniport driver I am using was the 84.56, which doesn't have the screen mapping problem during restart and with 7300/7600/7900 support. It's weird though that in the inf that is included, there are 8600 GPU IDs.

The latest 86 I believe was 86.63, did try it and it worked. When it came to the 87.05 with 84.56 miniport, the control panel won't load during start-up. The 91.xx with the 84.56 miniport, the PC BSODs, and finally with the 163/169s, with the 84.56 miniport, the driver replaces itself with the new one every restart even if the file is in read-only mode (pretty tough huh?).

Well it worked for me, having these specs:
    Intel Pentium 4 640 3.2Ghz Stock
    ECS PF5 Extreme 945P Chipset
    1GB Dual-Ch DDR2-533 -o'ced to 667 5-4-4-12
    Palit 7300GT Sonic 256mb GDDR3 @ 560/1400(700x2) [SLI] in x16/x4 operation with ASUS bridge
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
    86.62 with 84.56 miniport

This PC is 2 years old by the way.

    3dmark06 (1024x768): 4624 (SM:2219; CPU:953; HDR:2218)

To verify this, a 7300GT Sonic GDDR3 at 560/1400(700x2) will not really reach 3000 in 3dmark06 alone.

And by the way: These drivers does work with any chipset. I mean any. VIA, SiS, ATI, Intel etc, you name it.

Sorry nV, I got to post what I've found out. Back to NDA mode.

Follow up, the 86.62 modded forceware is not Crysis SP Demo friendly, after playing for around 5 to 10 mins, nv4_disp crashes. I uninstalled this and tried the 86.02 with the 84.56 nv4_mini.sys. I'll try to upload them in case you guys are interested.

Another theory, I believe that Intel chipsets can do SLI with the help of an nforce 100 PCI-E chip "that splits x16 PCI-E bandwidth into x8+x8 configuration". These are found on Alienware m9750 SLI-enabled laptops and yet are powered with Intel i945PM chipsets. They have additional lines in their drivers that look for the nf100 chip and let SLI to be engaged. Why can't we emulate anything like that for that matter, maybe emulate a chipset or a certain chip? I mean we can't do anything about the x16+x4 thing, but there are boards that do x8+x8. They have their SLI-nf100-enabled driver in their website. There are also modded infs in the internet that allows almost any GPU to be used.

I'm sure this is doable. I mean there are people who can bootstrap OSX and run it into VMware. There are those who can emulate a dongle for cetrain softwares. There are those who can bootstrap activation for certain OSes. I mean, this is not that hard if we really want to.

Well if there are no efforts, I'll be waiting for an nForce DDR3 motherboard or until my present motherboard fries. It would be better if nVidia would accept motherboards for trade-in for SLI-enabled motherboards.

Asus P5E X38 has 2 x16 lanes that are pci-e 2.0, You think there is a way to get 2 Nvidia Cards to run in functional x16 Sli?

    Say two 8800 GT's?

I have found a file on the net using google some pepople are saying that it works whit every chipset and the latest drivers but I am still waiting on my 8800GT's and I don't have a X38 board to test it. (No DFI X38 in my country jet )

Seeing as most of nVidias drivers are along the same lines/modular code etc, would it not be possible for some code genius to write an app or script that attaches itself to installed drivers and change what needs to be changed?

It would be slightly more versatile than adjusting individual drivers.

Even if nV adjust their code, the app can be adjusted too..

I KNOW SLI should be possible on any mobo that supports the hardware..im actually surprised no-one has cracked it wide open yet!

    AGP and PCIe in SLI

    Hello,

I have an Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA board with AGP and PCIe slots. I have a Palit 7600GT in the AGP slot.

My question: Can this mod work if:

    1) I add my AGP card to the inf file (NVIDIA_BR02.DEV_02E0.1) and

    2) I do NOT use an SLI bridge (no connector on AGP card, of course)

With the two slots so close together, the idea is to use a cooler on the AGP card that hangs over the back toward the CPU, and put a nice 7600GT from XFX into the PCIe slot.

Finally, in your opinion, am I likely to get a decent performance boost? (My Palit OCs like mad, currently get 4238 in 3DMark06).

    Thx.

I can say that it will work, cause guys from ocworkbench.com have run this config. As to the connector, it's not necessary since one of the driver versions. But the performance gain was quite small. You can check this out though by yourself.
