    Nice results there!

i got a quad, but mine is the old B3, got it yesterday and already set on my strike extreme.

I tried some oc and didn't try for too long, so im using 3.2 ghz with stock voltages, and some very nice temps of load 56-59 on all the 4 cores.

I just have some noob question, i couldnt run 4 superpi instances at once and after running the first instance, i tried to run 2 at a time and it did that commom error "Something" is not in convergent blablabla.

My memories are running pretty smoothly at 850mhz with 2.075v(see sig) so im not forcing them. And timings are stock.

So i could just run 1 instance of it at a time, not 2, 3 or 4 as i've seen out there.

This happened with stock mhz, and with overclocked mhz.

I'd like to know if Orthos, running on background, will stress all cores, or if i should open 4 instances of it to really test my cpu capabilities?

I never tried that prime95 software, and i saw it stress all the 4 cores for real, am i correct?

that's it, just some initial questions from a new intel-customer.
    My recent configuration:

    Asus P5K Deluxe
    Intel Q6600 @ 3.2ghz (8 x 400 @ 1.37v) | Batch: L644G508
    4 GB G.Skill F2-6400 CL4-GBHK @ DDR2 800(2.05v) 2T | 4-4-3-5
    Samsung 400 GB Sata2
    EVGA 8800 Ultra 768MB | 3D Mark 06 score: 14.400
    Seventeam ST-750EAJ
    Gemin2 | (evercool 120 mm Aluminium)

    Hi veilsidebr,
You must create 4 different directories with superpi program to run all 4 together without the error...
With this Prime you will be able to stress all cores together.

    nice, thank you.

i'd never imagine super pi to work that way. lol

    btw i tried 3dmark 06 decently for the first time(always tried with a horrible p4 631) , and i got about 11900 of score.

Cpu @ 3.1 ghz from what i remember.
    GTS running at 625/925 core/memories
    DDR2 @ 850 and 4-4-3-5

    is this a good score?

I am not an enthusiastic person, but I really have to sing the praises of lapping your heatsink for a quad core CPU especially if it's slightly convex to begin with. Running the system in my signature with that 1.25V recorded from Everest under load, my temperatures dropped 15-20 degrees Celsius across the four cores from two hours of lapping. They went from 63C-72C to 48C-52C under large FFT's in Prime.

    Suggestions.....be nice

Ok everyone please bare with me, I've been following this forum for a while now, and have been accumulating the components for my new sys 4 a couple of months now...My new system is not as sophisticated as all of yours, non the less, I do take the time to research, purchase the components, assemble it, and mess with it. I've got the EVGA 680i 122-ck-nf68 A1 motherboard, with a Quad 6600 with the G0 stepping, 2GB Corsair 8500c5d, Dual 8800 GTS's, powered with the Ultra X3 1000.

I'm not real big into OC'ing, but will mess with it. I currently have an old Zalman CPU cooler, and based on the popularity and results of everyone I will be purchasing the Ultra120 extreme. I will lap both the cpu and the cooler as I have done in the past......Question about the TIM, I have always used the AS5, but now I see ceramique, I see expensive products from Shinetsu, diamond based products from Jetart, I really don't have the time to research all of these options, so whats consensus on the currently available TIM's. Also, the EVGA comes with a heat pipe type of north bridge cooler that's connected to the sb. Is there any other optional "air" cooling for these.
Thanks in advance for any input.....

    again....

Hey again..... I've read other threads about how the 680i has "globbed" on thermal paste under the nb and sb, sure enough I popped them off and dam that seems like alot .... I'm going to apply new tim based on the advice from the previous thread, is the amount of tim applied roughly the same as the cpu? Also, again anyone familiar with this mb, are there alternate air cooling devices available.....

I'd use a thin layer of Arctic Ceramique. As for the cpu, I am still a devoted AS5 user. Regarding alternate coolers, check out the Thermalright HR-09 for the mosfetts, HR-05 SLI/IFX for the nb and sb, and of course the Ultra 120X for the cpu

For the chipset i use a slightly larger dab then i use for the CPU. Also I use arctic ceramique for the chipset for it's non-capacitive properties. AS5 can be used if you are careful.

Didn't mean to quote you Retro. Meant to quote the one above ya.

    No problem GripS
We agree on the Ceramique for the chipset. I used to use AS5 on chipsets but feel safer with Ceramique which works just fine.

Just to add to the database, GA-P35-DS3L, water cooled Q6600 G0, 4 g OCZ Plat rev 2- 14-4-4-4.
