ECS is not so bad at overclocking after all...

Just finish a $700 budget build for my friend with a Frys cpu+ecs combo... and man am I wrong about ECS's overclock ability until I did this myself !

2 hr ortho stable, running the ram at 667 frequency @ 2.0V, 5-5-5-15, vcore @ auto (yes.. no option to change it, only cpu frequency ratio, but hey this is the easiest oc I ever done!)
Everest reports the cpu temp at 30C constantly during idle and load, but its not in the screenshot

    System spec:
    - Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 G0 - 2.33GHz @ stock --> 3.26GHz @ 40% oc
    - ECS G33T-M2 (V1.0) with latest bio (07/05/31)
    - Asus Silent Square heatsink
    - 2x 1GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800
    - EVGA 8600GTS 256MB
    - Seagate 7200.10 500GB SATAII
    - Coolermaster eXtremePower 500W (avoid this if u have $)
    - Lite-On DVD DL SATA
    - Ultra XBlaster ATX Case

Very nice. Also nice to see that ECS budget boards will now run ram in DUAL channel mode too, unlike the old e4300/PT890T-A combo that would only do single channel despite dual chanel ram...

I saw your post over at another forum before the crash deleted it, wanted to say again, good job dude, I actually have one of those mobo's, it's sitting here waiting to be played with right now.

An impressive little product for the size and the price.

    Congrats on the nice overclock!

I actually tried 500 FSB to see the maximum limit but the thing just wouldn't post, then I tried ocing 41% (469FSB) with same memory frequency and timing... then I can get into the os, but it would freeze sometime... I even tried increasing the memory timing but still no go... so now 466 is where everything is perfectly stable. I am sure people with better modding and oc skill can go even further lol

edit: according to this review and my personal experience, the bio setting allows you to change the cpu "ref" frequency to 680MHz

actually that board is not all that bad... i think that 469fsb is good enough for most users.

If the motherboard cost 30 dollars, i would definitely buy one or two for crunching.

Board isn't that cheap, even on ebay =(
3.2 ghz is about what a good e6600 or e6750 will do stable on stock volts.
Impressive fsb though, even for the g33 chipset...

Let's see how long that board lasts. But of course if it goes down, there will doubtless be no response.

    ie.

I took my friends cheapass board, clocked it up high and hey, after six months it won't startup. I built it for my friend and now he's pissed because it's dead. I guess I was stupid to clock someone else's value board like this.

    Good luck on board longevity...

This post reminds me of those posts on overclocks with stock air.

    ie.

Hey, look at the overclock I got and it's stable with STOCK AIR!

    LOL

I bought a G33T-M2 on Ebay, found a E6420 in my closet, 1 GB DDR2 5300 RAM , a 9700 HSF, etc. Built a 24/7 folder, OC'ed it to 2.8 GHz and so far so good. It folds a WU 2653 in about 15 min (give or take a second or two) I didn't care for the ECS south bridge HS, it looks like a postage stamp. The north bridge cooler is copacetic. I'm in the process of putting a better sink on SB. Lets see how long this ECS board lasts with a mild OC' (fingers crossed, never had much luck with ECS stuff ). I've got to say it's cheap and supports 1333 fsb, it's also suppose to support the new 45nm chips

Edit: Oh yeah, I'm folding 24/7 with a E6600 (OC'ed 3 GHz) on a Biostar TForce P965 (SATA, 3 GB's PC 6400 RAM) and this little board, using onboard graphics and PC5300 RAM "feels" just as "snappy". Same WU (2653) is about 1x or 2x mins slower on the G33T-M2.

Edit again: I just reread this thread and all I can say is that's one hell of an overclock. I think if people aren't trying to get max OC's this board is the way to go. So far it's a teriffic, cheap, uncomplicated and impressive 24/7 folder.

Very nice results on that combo! May I ask, what is your processor's batch #? I also bought the E6550/ECS combo at Fry's but I will be replacing the mobo for a IP35 Pro, P5K-E, or DFI Blood Iron. Thanks.
