    Suggest some ram

Anyone suggest me some ram?? I want stuff that can for sure handle 250fsb incase I need it. I have the 8rda3+ rev 2.0 and hit 217fsb with my pc3200 Corsair xms. I was looking at the OCZ el pc4000 GOLD. Anyone use this stuff??? I seen it was INTEL optimized or something. That a problem with AMD???

I really wouldnt get anything rated above pc 3500 for an amd unless it was guarunteed to have BH5 chips in it. Look for someone to buy this type of ram off of online or a vendor who still might have them because for AMD rigs they are the best. PC 4000, 4200, etc, will not hold the type of timings AMD likes at 250 fsb, only the BH5 with a little bit of voltage can do it.

I had alot of suggestions for OCZ pc3700 el Gold. Is that pretty much BH5??? I heard that stuff does pretty well.

That ram does not have the BH5 chips in it. The BH5 stuff is pretty hard to come buy these days, so if you are gonna buy some new stuff your best bets would be Corsair 3500 or Kingston HyperX 3500...If you had the balls, you could try the HyperX 3000 and hope for BH5 chips, but thats a risk of money. THe Hyper X 3200 might also have some BH5 chips. Also though, OCZ 3200 EL has been great for me and with some voltage I can get it to 240 with tight timings. But about your 3700El question, that is good ram, and will be good for your AMD, just dont expect extremely tight timings at 250 fsb

But the question remains for me:

is FSB > mem timings??? Which do I sacrifice to achieve the other???

Yes, Muskin still has BH-5 on their 3500 L2. Just ordered some friday and hope to have it tuesday. You don't want to give up timmings for more fsb. You are just going in circles as far as performance if you raise timmings to raise fsb.

My OCZ will throw around 240MHz at 11-2-2-2, stable enough for benching, and that was on 3.09v, I'm just waiting on a new motherboard to see what it'll do with a bit more voltage.
I've heard it all, I've seen it all, I've done it all. I just don't remember any of it.

PC4000 is not great for AMD. AMD really needs tight timings and mosr PC4000 is CAS3.0 Best to get some good qualirty PC3500 or WInbond chipped PC3200.

I just got some TwinMOS PC3700 w/TwinMOS chips. No results as of yet.....

Thanks Ted. How is this stuff??? And will it make a maddog of an AMD out of this kitten. I always had touble getting good memory bench's, and I shouldnt complain about pc3200 Corsair running at decent timings, but i'd like to hit at least the 240fsb mark.

Even if they do have the chips, this memory is inadequate. It will not roll with this mobo at all.

Also, is the 2.9vddr enough for these chips?? I hear they like voltage and suck it up.

To show the true potential of BH-5 they need some volts. 3.2 should give you about 235-240FSB 2-2-2-5/11.

Well then I have to stay away from those. I have only 2.9 on my board, and dont really dig the vmod idea. That is unless its real stinkin easy. Like A7N8X easy......

Well I dont think any ram will get 250fsb with only 2.9vdimm unless you are running REALLY relaxed timings.

are you looking for 250 2-2-2? only bh5 can do that... and only the good bh5 with a huge load of volts...

    ...

Look at Dirty_Punk's post, about halfway down the page, for the most freakin easy vmod technique ever!!!

This is a great idea, and I am gonna try it on a few vid cards and mobos some time soon.

It could be the board holding you back FSB wise, if you can I would try and borrow some RAM that has been tested at high FSB's before splashing out on some new stuff, you could find your FSB overclock is no better after you have forked out for new RAM.

Its ok to get more. I have an A7N8X dlx so I need another set of DDR for dual channel. I split the set to run both boards for F@H. I only have the chipset voltage at 1.6 the default, and could go higher i'll bet. It is an 8rda3+ rev 2.0. Im happy with the pc3200 goin up to 3500 speeds. But I dont wanna go CAS 3 with crappy timings just to go higher.
