I have been having trouble with my 2900 locking up at at boot or reboot or after a shutdown, it hangs and the red light stays stuck on. I have to turn the power supply off and keep trying to boot sometimes several times to get it to boot. I do not notice this with default bios settings. I did not notice this being a bios issue but now that you mention it seems trouble started after I flashed to F5 Final...

I want to know if this behaviour described is normal with the GA-P35-DQ6.
    I own a Rev 1.0 board, with BIOS F5.

    1) After I change some settings in BIOS, like memory settings, clock, etc after I hit "Save and Exit" the computer will turn off for a few seconds, then turn on automatically. Is this normal?

    2) When the computer is booting, if I press quickly the RESET button twice, it turns off then will automatically turn on just like it does when I change memory settings in BIOS.

    3) I've got a Seventeam ST-750EAJ PSU, and if I switch off the PSU using the switch at the back of the PSU or if a power loss situation happens, after a few seconds I'll see the coolers spin and leds turn on briefly, just like the computer trying to power up, but with no power.

The "AC Back Function" is set to "Soft-Off", so PC is not supposed to turn on on power loss situations, specially when no power is being sent through the power cord (i.e. PSU power switch = off)

I am running a DS3P v1.1 right now. My crucial PC8000 1GB stick needs 2.1v to be stable @ 1200 5-5-5-15 on slot 1 or 2; but it needs 2.3v to be stable on slot 3 or 4. That's a huge difference. Is it just me, or has anyone noticed the same thing?
I think this board might be defective and I may need to RMA it.

    Greetings

    Currently running a rev 1 ds3 and Geil Ultra PC2 6400.
I am happy with the results I've got from this budget ram and was wondering....

Given the ram compatibility with my ds3 would you think it safe to assume it would also work fine with a P35-DS3R?

Also, do you think 1 gig ram sticks would perform as well as my current 512's?
Could accept a minor performance hit but nothing too drastic

(Sorry if my question seems naive but never really been a major student of memory performance.....just a cheapskate cruncher)

    Any feedback appreciated

Oh, and the new board will be housing a Q6600.

Some people experience different overclock capabilities when changing memory slots. I've observed this myself with some boards, from different manufacturers and chipsets.

With the P35 so far I wasn't able to test this because I'm not overclocking it yet until I get my PSU issues sorted out.

You should have no problem. Just about every stick of ram that I have used has clocked as well or better on the p35 from the p965. If you are going with a quad though, you should really have 2gb ram. If that is 4x512, I haven't tried that, but I don't think you'll have any trouble.

Its normal for them to do that. I thought the same thing when I first got mine....

    Hmm thank you road-runner.
I looked in the manual and found nothing about this. And I never had a motherboard acting like this before :P

So, just to make sure, have you observed all the 3 situations I described? Or only #1 and #2?

Just #1, I have never tried hitting the reset button. Its weird how they do after changing the bios but its supposed to be normal...

If I power down at night, and take all power to the mashine, then I starts up in std clock. My oc settings are saved, and I have to go to bios and enable to manually set fsb settings.. and every thing works as before..
any way I can avoid it to do this trick.. it's kinda annoying

    Hi, thank you

The current ram is 2 x 512 and will remain in the ds3 rig.
Running my 6300 at 442 x 7....nothing major but good enough for my 24/7 crunching and decent value.

    For the P35 board I intend installing 2 x 1gig sticks.

I have an P35 DS4 REV.1.0 with the F3 BIOS. My system also includes 4 SATA HDDs (2 of them are in RAID) and has 2x1GB GKX Crusial RAM units and a 6300 cpu at 3GHz. The bus ratio is 1:1. My video adapter is an EVGA 7950GX2. Is it possible for me to upgrade to the F6 BIOS for better performanse or F3 BIOS is better???????????????????????? PLZ ANYONE

LOL! Richard Dower - you may want to recheck your link. I got a video clip of a hot naked British chick. I liked it, but it didn't update my drivers. Lemme guess - you copied the link from the wrong browser tab?

why don't you check? For better performance consider running your RAM with a 5:4 multiplier

I had the same issue before I made two setting changes. Look at this link, 5th picture of BIOS from top.

    http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Revi...21278&PageId=9

The picture that has the System Memory Multiplier in it....when I had the power off and back on problem like you have, I changed the SMM from "Auto" to 3 which is what DDR2 800 would be.

The other setting change i made (which is on the same screen as SMM) was setting the memory Option to Option 2.
    Not a Dell.

Well last night I decided to remove all the copper heatsinks off my DQ6 and was shocked to see that the contact points where .
The P35 chip had decent contact but the TIM was rock hard. There was only 1 impression in the heatsink pad for the MOSFET modules around the CPU.

I had applied Artic TIM and also used some heat resistant o-rings on the nuts for the north bridge to add additional pressure. I felt there was too much movement for the block on the northbridge.
Normally I could put my finger on the heatsink and not feel much heat, now when I do this the heatsink is warm.

The standard TIM pads that are shipped with the motherboard obviously do not do what they are meant to do.
